That’s awesome that we have 3 on the top 50 list, but this is still a league that is talent driven.
If I counted right, Alabama has 4, and Clemson has 6! guys rated higher than our highest. Not saying that it can’t be overcome, but that’s going to be a tough mountain to summit.

Sorry to hit y’all with them negative waves so early in the morning.

    • Any list that has some corner from Georgia Southern right behind Andrew Thomas isn’t worth the web page space it’s written on.

A list that has Jake from State Fromm so far down is a damn joke.

I don’t necessarily mind that. There are probably individual players scattered around the country who are at least as good as individual players at Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, etc. I actually think if their grading system was a clinical assessment of individual performance, you wouldn’t end up with 20% of the top 50 coming from the two best programs.

        • Do you really believe Andrew Thomas (consensus top 10 pick at left tackle in 2020) is the 39th best player in the country? I think he’s the best player regardless of position on the team loaded with future NFL talent and may be the best NFL prospect in the best conference in the country.

Well, part of the reason he’s a top 10 pick is because he plays a high value position. He may not actually be one of the top 10 players in next year’s draft, or he may be. I don’t have any idea what PFF does to grade players, and I don’t really trust it, so he may also very well be one of the best 10 players in the country. That said, I stand by my view that with 130 teams, more individual players at those smaller schools should probably show up in these kinds of lists in an unbiased assessment.

Any “diamond in the rough” will make these lists, every time. So if Southern’s got a corner who could start for an SEC school, he’s going to make it. And you don’t get more than a few on the list until you win a national championship.

Your last statement speaks to an inherent bias. Judging individual players is hard in football with all of the interworking parts every play, so I’m not suggesting what PFF tries to do is easy or anything, but I don’t believe for one second that any diamonds in the rough make their lists.

Should we temper our excitement about Pickens until we read rave reviews about his blocking skills?

I always temper my expectations until I hear if a WR has spent the summer doing passing drills w/ the QB and is either a (1) quiet confident leader or (2) a coach on the field.

There’s just no way to know until you get an August story with those details.

What about if it’s the hardest Summer / August he’s ever put in ? That’s a sure-fire guarantee of big things to come, right ?

Zeus, if he stays healthy, is going to be a monster.

Gurley type skills with Nick Chubb’s work ethic.

    • I can’t wait to see him in Nashville. We have family friends in North Carolina whose brother is a high school head coach. He thought White was going to be as good as Gurley assuming he stayed healthy.

Let’s tap the brakes a bit on ZW, as he still has quite a ways to go just to get back to where he was in HS. He’s making nice gains but the speed still isn’t there, and the staff will slowly work him back into action. IMO, he’ll get limited carries the first 1/3-1/2 of the year, then they hope to let him loose a bit. And they are hoping by then that he’s made gains in the speed department as well.

        • I said if he stayed healthy. All I’m saying is what his potential is based on someone who saw him in person and on a ton of film (his team played Scotland Co. in the playoffs the week after Zeus got hurt) and the general opinion of coaches in the state.

I hope he makes the trip to Nashville and gets a chance to tote the rock in a blowout.

On what are you basing his reduced speed? If it’s just based on the fact he’s had knee surgeries, it’s not a universal truth that everyone comes back a step slow.

          • Gurley certainly didn’t.

Chubb did because of the severity of the injury. Not discounting ACL injuries but with today’s sports medicine, it’s not a death sentence to one’s potential.

I’m basing it on what I’ve been told by someone very close to the program who regularly watches him in practice.

2021, after the current contract expires. And note, I said it was a done deal barring something totally unexpected occurring (such as Jax throwing an ungodly sum at UGA to keep the game there). As it stands now, however, the last game in Jax will be in 2021.

FWIW, and I’ve said this probably 100’s of times, take anything I say with huge grain of salt, and if you don’t choose to believe me, I really don’t care and that’s totally cool with me. 90% of the stuff I hear I choose not to share anyway, but occasionally I’ll drop a few nuggets here and there just for fun or otherwise.

With that said, I’ve been right with the overwhelming majority of my occasional predictions in recent years here. For ex., I stated Smart would be the next HC a few days after the UF game. I predicted a 12+ win season in ’17 and literally everyone here called me insane. (somewhat non-dawg) I said CMR would resign from Miami at years’ end early in the season last year. I can go on and on.

FWIW, and though injuries and lucky certainly has a say in things in terms of winning a title, I’m already on record for predicting a national championship for UGA this year, with a 14-1 record.

I like that last paragraph……….keep the insider stuff coming. It’s more fun to believe there is a little info tap there anyway. I also happen to genuinely believe you because (a) this site is probably not in the catalog of a ton of Walmart Dawg fans and (b) lying on message boards is sooooo 2006. Nobody has time for that shit anymore.

3rd, we appreciate the info stream but I’m concerned that BM will find out and you could be compromised. You could be sent to the “re-education” room (it’s under the hydrotherapy pool deck. Don’t tell.) strap you into a chair and make you watch the 2015 Florida game until you crack, then force you feed us disinformation to throw us into chaos. You need a safe word or phrase so we’ll know if this happens.

Agreed. You don’t just bounce back to 100% from a second ACL tear so quickly. Crazier things have happened, but the realistic best case would look like this: He’ll take snaps early and look solid. He’ll look great and be regularly spelling Swift by the end of the season without a major drop-off, but it’ll still be a drop-off. He’ll be amazing in 2020, then declare. Sucks we’ll probably only get one full year at 100% out of such a talent, but that’d still be a very good result at this point, considering the double ACL tear (and considering we’ll probably be breaking in a new QB in 2020).

I just wonder how long it takes him to get to 100%. I don’t think I have rooted harder for any kid (includinging Chubb) to come back and have a stellar year. Kid has over come an incredible amount by the age of 20. He is on that field because of two things. His incredible drive and grit and the massive advances the mdical community has made in surgically repairing and rehabbing what were career ending injuries 20 years ago.

I do. He was from SoCal if I remember correctly. Never played in a game. He was lucky not to loose his lower leg. It was a Robert Edwards type of injury where not only ligaments and cartilage were torn in half but also blood vessels. I could be wrong in my memory.

My opinion is that they win 4 games at most and could be 1-11 or 0-12 if the bottom falls out.

I don’t see how FU’s SEC schedule could be called the easiest. The Gators have to play a regular SEC East schedule that includes Georgia plus Auburn and LSU from the West. I expect FU to lose all three of those games plus lose to Mizzou. I also think it not unlikely they will lose to Miami which has better personnel than FU now that the Canes have a transfer QB.
