SEC Power Poll, Week Thirteen

secpowerpoll2008_medium-1-1

It took 13 weeks, but we’ve got the SECCG participants lined up, finally.  As for the rest of the conference, let’s just say there’s a noticeable drop off after number six.

  1. LSU.  With one game left, LSU has outscored Alabama in league play this season.  How many of you saw that coming?
  2. Alabama.  Oh, shit, Tua’s out, which means they got almost nothing from his backup Mac Jones **squints, checks notes** outside of 10 of 12 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns.
  3. Georgia.  If doing just enough to get by in the SEC is an art, the Dawgs are Rembrandt.
  4. Florida.  Dan Mullen is on the verge of starting his Gator career with back-to-back ten-win seasons.
  5. Auburn.  Which coach in the Iron Bowl needs the win more?
  6. Texas A&M.  The Aggies played well against Georgia, but still don’t have a meaningful win this season.
  7. Tennessee.  The Vols are 4-3 in the conference, with a minus-44 point differential.
  8. Kentucky.  All things considered — their two best players from 2018 gone and a wide receiver playing quarterback — to be bowl eligible with a week to go is no mean feat for the ‘Cats.
  9. Mississippi State.  If the Bulldogs lose the Egg Bowl, they don’t go bowling.
  10. Ole Miss.  All they have left is to ruin Mississippi State’s season.  What else do they need?
  11. Missouri.  Like Tennessee, the Tigers have a minus-44 point differential in SEC play; unlike Tennessee, Mizzou is 2-5 in the conference.  At least they close with Arkansas.
  12. South Carolina.  It sounds like Agent Muschamp will endure for another season.  What’s the over/under on the number of assistants he cans?
  13. Vanderbilt.  The Commodores three-game win streak against the Vols is on the line.  I just wanted to type that because I probably won’t be able to do so again in my lifetime.
  14. Arkansas.  A fine mess.

I’d say there is a noticeable drop off after number three, too.

I think there is a considerable drop off after #3.

Was Western Carolina really as good gauge of Mac Jones?

I’d have UGA at #2….where are Bama’s quality wins? The rest of the Country thinks we are better than Bama..not sure why the Senator protests.

    • So, you think a team is solely measured by its schedule? Alabama can’t be good because it hasn’t played a sufficient number of good teams?

BTW, as far as your “rest of the country” goes, Sagarin, FPI and SP+ all have ‘Bama ranked ahead of Georgia.

Thinks Auburn gets them this week.

BTW…..AP and Coaches’ Poll has UGA ahead of them. Pretty sure the most important poll tomorrow night will have it that way also.

          • Point wasn’t that nobody thinks Georgia is better than ‘Bama. It’s not a unanimous opinion that everyone does.

And your “most important poll” doesn’t matter until after the SECCG.

Of course none of it matters at this point, but it’s fun to talk about. Just agreeing with PTC, the Dawgs should be #2 IMO…..but WTFDIK.

I don’t care what any poll says this week, we are where we all thought we would be at this point. I just want to win another SEC, and we are in position to.

Ah-hem! I said back in the spring, and through the summer that LSU was the team that would win the West, but said it might be 50/50 because the game was in Tusky. I will admit I didn’t think the offense would be this impressive, remarkable turnaround in a short period of time. I even said I would rather play Bama in Atlanta, and I still would.

          Auburn sucks.

It use to be easier to like/tolerate other teams. Not so much anymore, most opposing fans are just obnoxious.

Hell, I hate’em all now, just different levels of hate.

where is the UK HC headed to at the end of the season. Is he headed back to FSU.
Plus the former FSU, Bama, and UGA DC now HC at UT is slowly but surely putting the pieces in for the Vols. Mostly going unnoticed by the glitter sports media. UT has some solid assistant coaches. Hard to teach old dogs new tricks but Pruitt is doing it.
Speaking of Dawgs, Smart sent a message post Aggie game to his offense…get your asses going like the defense….just wonder if Coley understands the memo.
Who got the memo after that Auburn game…special teams and their coach…paid off big time in Aggie game.
Media. Would it be better for Fromm to sit some out ’til he gets his motor running. No doubt Swift put a bee in his bonnet late in the game when the Dawgs needed to move the chains and not give the ball back to the Aggies.
Swift and Hot Road, plus a few more got the Smart message…time for some players to step it up…waiting on Fromm and Coley.
Frankly I think this has been one of the toughest schedules a Dawg team has playe thru in awhile.
Florida, Auburn, and A&M are very good teams. You can let your feeling s and etc get in front of you, but those are 3 damn solid teams. A&M had a solid defensive plan against the run…their LBs and DBs support the line quickly and close gaps…and yet Swift made some runs.
In my book Swift and Hot Rod are legit All Americans.

I’m shocked and impressed that Pruitt righted the ship in time to save the season and even exceed the number of expected wins. The schedule gets harder next year and they are no closer to the top of the SEC, but the first step is to consistently beat the other bad/decent teams and I think they can do that.

Bama has played a weak schedule and lost the only game that mattered. Despite all the questioning, give Kirby his due…what other coach is fine with killing 4 – 6 minutes in the 4th Q with a one score lead? But he knows his D, and I think he does know his O. No one can scheme around 4 turnovers to USCe and a missed kick from one of the all time great kickers…it happened. And he’s used the loss to keep his team focused for this run. My point is that when you look under the hood, Georgia is stronger than Bama for the playoff run. What is Bama doing differently to beat Clempsun if they had the chance this year? And they won’t (or shouldn’t) get that chance. That puts UGA at #2 in my book.

I understand the “ain’t played nobody” argument.

But what does anyone think Alabama’s record would be against our schedule?
