It’s a virtual buffet, peeps, so don’t worry about exposure to the virus.
- The Pirate gets a commitment out of a four-star QB from Texas.
- Here’s the transcript from Smart’s conference call yesterday.
- The SEC cancelled its spring meeting in Destin.
- Athlon’s preseason top 25 list has Florida ahead of Georgia.
- Two Rivals pundits think Jamie Newman will be the real deal this season.
- “Using ESPN’s way-too-early preseason Top 25 as a guide, 247Sports national analysts Bud Elliott and Brad Crawford take a stab at which teams are overrated and underrated ahead of the 2020 season.” Elliott thinks Georgia’s number four ranking is right; Brad Crawford continues to pump the brakes.
- NCAA President Mark Emmert and members of the association’s senior management are taking pay cuts. I wonder if that will comfort the athletic directors out there irritated about the significant drop in funds being paid out by the NCAA.
- Spurrier, on Finebaum, about spring practice: “Most all coaches would tell you that the staffs that have been there for 2, 3, 4 years or more that it’s not that big a deal not having spring football,” Spurrier said. “Maybe if you had competition at quarterback or some other positions, it would be important, but preseason, if you can get a month in before you play, I certainly think everyone would be capable of playing — maybe not quite their best, but pretty close to playing the best they can.
…”Coordinator James Coley has to develop more targets outside of Pickens”
Great research their, Athlon. Such garbage and laziness.

You have to admit you’d probably rate Georgia lower than Florida if Coley were still the OC. 😉

Isn’t Coley undefeated against Mullen too?

Check the publication date. This is over two months old and came out before the departure of Coley.

When Spurrier isn’t being a dick, I do enjoy his insights.

For me, pretty much any time he isn’t gigging us. (Can’t spell Citrus without UT, etc.). I also think he’s probably right about spring practice. Saban and Bama know what they are doing without it. Kirby and Gus and even Mullen are in the same boat, but Pittman and other staffs that have had wholesale changes are going to miss not having it. Then there are the players who were hoping to earn a job, but I think that can also happen in fall practice.
I think we have spring practice for two reasons: 1) we have always done it that way, and 2) when the coaches are being overpaid millions of dollars you have to look like you’re doing something.

Oh, I enjoy his quips about other teams as well. I even chuckled at his comment about wanting to play us early in the year due to player discipline. I agree about his spring practice thoughts. I meant, when is he not being a dick. 😉

Gee, I hope the SEC can figure out some way to have their coaches meet with reporters. If only there was some network of computer signals that crisscrossed the country carrying audio, video and information everywhere.

I love that Athlon ranks UF so high. I want their heads full of dreams of grandeur.

Florida is the best team to hype for clicks. I’m sure Florida fans will be quoting this as a definitive source soon.
I can take my Homer glasses off in say that there’s absolutely no reason to think Florida is a better team this year than Georgia. Maybe they do win , but as it stands right now there’s nothing on paper that says that.

I never get tired of watching that flea-flicker. Classic Kirby sticking it straight up Mullen’s ass.
