TFW your reputation precedes you

From Stewart Mandel’s Mailbag ($$):

Todd Grantham, the Florida defensive coordinator, is a Virginia Tech alum and a native of the Blacksburg area. Would he be a realistic possibility to replace Justin Fuente if the Hokies move on? — Tom W.

@Tom W. If you are a Va. Tech fan, may God have mercy on your soul if this is the guy you’re hoping to land. — Brian S., Georgia fan

I love it when mailbag readers give a better answer than I possibly could.

Go Dawgs!

Justin Fuente is a good football coach. Trading him for Todd Grantham as HC would be like trading a competent physician for a witch doctor. Do you really want to die an agonizing death?

How dare you sully the good intentions of witch craft medicine with such a salacious comparison.

    • Fuente was a guy I was actually hoping Georgia would go after back in 2015, but he’s performed well below Frank Beamer levels the last few years and apparently rubbed a number of big-money VT boosters the wrong way in the process. I can see the Hokies tossing him at the end of the season, but there’s no way Grantham would come within 100 miles of their shortlist.

  2. Grantham almost always managed to leave places before getting fired, getting a better deal somewhere else. Falling upward as they say… this may be the time he doesn’t. It’s hard to say how he could manage to accomplish that now. I think position coach may be in his future.

What are the odds Mullen doesn’t fire him this year? And if he doesn’t, don’t Mullen’s odds go up instantly that he’d be on the chopping block next season?

This is one of those, “If you know, you know,” type of situations, because all the media has ever done is suck off Todd Grantham. ESPN makes excuses for him, the chuckleheads at the SEC on CBS make excuses for him. They all continue the narrative that Grantham is a great DC based off a legitimate great 2011 season at Georgia and 2015 season at Louisville, and a pretty good 2017 at MSU.

The narrative is the narrative with the media, so fans outside of the fans of the teams who’ve suffered under his defenses have no idea, because all the hear is how great he is.

I would like to see Mullen and Grantham given lifetime contracts at Florida. The school and the individuals deserve each other.

If you look up the word douchebag in Webster’s dictionary, Bobby Petrino’s photo is next to the definition. That said, I still owe him a debt of gratitude for “stealing” Todd Grantham away from coach Richt’s staff.

Grantham will use Tom W.‘s question as a reason why fu should give him a raise and time extension. We’ve got to do all we can to push the V.T. job rumor.

Meh, won’t surprise me one bit if Grantham is out this time next week. With excuses getting thin Mullen will be looking for an escape goat.

End of November or between the end of the game Saturday and the 1st of November…neither termination date for Grantham would surprise me.

There are great people at Virginia tech, and I’m biased towards the area as I absolutely love Roanoke. That said, I hope he never returns to Blacksburg.
