I tried to warn you doggone Dawgs after last year’s game, but you wouldn’t listen.
You only laughed at me and sent me nasty tweets and emails, saying I was a partisan, provincial Gator hack and a blind, biased Dan Mullen flack.
Before the most monumental Georgia-Florida game in years, let us take a moment to revisit what I wrote after Mullen’s Gators were manhandled 36-17 by coach Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs in Mullen’s inaugural Cocktail Party last year.
“Enjoy this, Georgia,” I wrote. “Savor this second consecutive victory over the Florida Gators. Relish your clear superiority over your rivals during Saturday’s 36-17 victory in the World’s Largest Outdoor Talent Discrepancy Party. Every Dog has its day. But your Dog days aren’t going to last as long as you once thought. In less than a season, new Gator coach Dan Mullen has at least put some chomp back in this rivalry after taking over a doomed, done-for, dysfunctional program that completely quit on former coach Jim McElwain during last year’s 42-7 loss to the Bulldogs.
“Cherish the 19-point victory, Georgia. Embrace it. Appreciate it. With Dan the Man in charge, you’re not going to be Dogging the Gators like this for very much longer.”
I hate to say I told you so, but here we are just one year later and Mullen already has his No. 6-ranked Gators rated higher and performing better than Smart’s No. 8-ranked Bulldogs. If the Gators win Saturday — and I acknowledge that’s a big, big if — Mullen will have proven in just two years at UF that he is a better coach than Smart.
… It doesn’t take a mathematician to figure out that you can count the number of great college football coaches on one hand: Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney, Ryan Day, Lincoln Riley and Kirby Smart. And guess what? Those coaches aren’t coming to UF.
… Mullen was such a bad recruiter when he was Urban Meyer’s offensive coordinator at UF that Meyer wouldn’t even send him out on the road to recruit. Unfortunately for UF, Mullen’s recruiting skills didn’t improve much as the head coach, which is why the Gators’ are currently recruiting at UCF’s level.
There is more to being a head coach than drawing up a game plan, putting on the headsets and calling plays. The head coach is the driving influence for every element of the organization. Being an $8 million-a-year college head coach is a multi-faceted job that requires not just being a play-caller but a program-builder.
Welcome to the party, pal.
Bianchi, you have no credibility…you’re dead to me

I was thinking of ol’ Mike Bianchi after Kirby Smart smacked around Dan Mullen once again in Jacksonville last month. I was definitely thinking of him when Mullen nearly lost to Samford and got Force choked by Eli Drinkwitz. And I was waiting to hear the reaction when Mullen got fired. What a hack. Can’t wait to hear all about how Bob Stoops or Bill O’Brien or whoever Florida gets to come to town will own Kirby Smart in a year or two.

PLEASE let it be Bob Stoops. He hated, HATED recruiting while at OU. I’m sure that he’ll do a great job turning that around at FU.

Should the powers at FU hire a retread/splash name, that person will be there in name only and collecting checks for 3 (+/_) years making no significant gains thusly putting FU behind for years to come…#FTMF

Like Andy Staples, I find it funny how so many of these previous pro-mullen people rather conveniently are washing their hands of the last four years and basically are playing stupid now. I actually linked that Bianchi article and another one the other day in one of my replies as a reference point, and there’s a slew of material out there from all these previous pro-Mullen fans who now are ironically telling you, ‘see, I told you so!’
Most of us were laughed at and called stupid all these years for pointing out Dan’s obvious flaws which would prohibit success. Now these same people, within a matter of a few weeks, quickly have jumped over to our side and are trying to tell us they knew this all along. Oh, and by the way, Kirby now is a decent coach or something…but still an asshole.
On deck are Auburn fans, who quickly are turning on Harsin after previously trying to convince themselves and others that he was the great Savior from the Great Northwest.

It is almost like all of us stupid ass fans knew better than the hack writers that in college football recruiting is as vitally important as in game coaching.
With respect to Auburn, while I thought the Harsin hire was a head scratcher, it would be peak Barn if Harsin were to bolt to Washington after one year on The Plains. Delicious, even.

The extent of Harsin’s researching Auburn was to ask Jimmy Sexton how much the Barners were dumb enough to offer him.

I don’t mind the Gator faithful and the Gator-centric doing their Gator thing, sing their Gator song and dance their Gator dance. After all, Bianchi and Staples and others have to make a living and they do it preaching to the folks wearing their Gator glasses and gear. What I do object to is their whoring themselves out in their articles. They should be professional enough and educated enough and principled enough to tell the truth. This is what they haven’t done. You can be totally biased for your team and still tell the consumer the truth. Truth was in this case that Ol’ Dan wasn’t a perfect head coach from the git-go, had his his own blemishes and they didn’t say a word – just kept telling the jort minded what they wanted to hear – but not the truth.

I’ve learned a long time ago people want to hear what they want to hear and they REALLY do not want to hear the truth, because the truth is usually ugly.
That being said as a Georgia fan, I’m just super, super disappointed that both the gator press like bianchi and the gator fan base stopped believing their own bullshit on Dan mullen. Having a rival fan base pledge their loyalty and blind belief to a head coach who couldn’t recruit, hire good assistants, beat ranked teams or for that matter even play the best QB on his roster but somehow manages to win juuuuust enough to keep them hoping that better days are right around the corner is rare, precious situation. I was hoping they’d keep drinking their Kool aid and delusion in spite of the repeated beat downs from Kirby and they almost would have! Had it not been for stupid South Carolina!!! And Samford…and Mizzou……

UGA fans watched Urban and Saban dismantle us because they simply had better players.
Somehow, the Florida media convinced themselves that wasn’t why. It is an amazing look at human psychology—people are genuinely terrible at correctly attributing their success or failure to the actual source.

Bianchi is a hack, but I wonder (a) how much truth there is in his statement that Urban wouldn’t send Mullen to recruit because he was a bad recruiter, and (b) if that is true, how in the hell does anyone hire him to be a head coach in the most competitive conference in CFB knowing that recruiting is, if not job number 1, job number 1a?

The bull gators were desperate at the time they hired Cousin Eddie the portajohn master. Nothing has changed. I’m buying an industrial size case of popcorn for this show.

Because people forget why they were successful. Urban pushed recruiting to the edge of the rules back in the day and collected tons of talent—that’s why he won.
Florida wanted someone who wouldn’t say no, so they convinced themselves that the reason for all that success was Mullen’s brilliant scheming.

WOW- he must be clairvoyant. It took only two year from the time of this statement until it came true. Now we will have to be Dogging the Gators with a new asshole in charge as Kirby sent Dan the Man ridding of into the sunset on is Vespa while wearing his Darth Vader costume (while Drinkwitz continued to troll him-thanks for the assist).
A little side note to stick the knife in the TURDS and twist it a little more. As of yesterday when the kid from Buford decommitted, that left the TURDS with ZERO, I repeat ZERO commitments from an 24/7 composite top 100 players. UGA on the other had has 10 with several more to come. That should close that gap nicely Mr. Bianchi. Mullen has set the Gators back decades and we shall be forever grateful. Think how long it took UGA to recover from Mark Richt’s disaster class WITH the top recruiting HC in the game working 24/7. Jortsville is in for some very dark days. .

UF fans are sounding more and more like South Carolina fans about who their next coach will be. If we can get _____ to come out of retirement, he’ll show those Dawgs a thing or two. LOL! It’s comical.

They are in a bit of a civil war over Kiffin and Napier. A lot of them moved from Kiffin as soon as they saw that article with the quotes from the Mississippi high school coaches. Some of them are clinging to him because he’s an arrogant smart ass with a weird personality so he checks a lot of their boxes. But there is this weird cultish behavior surrounding a potential hiring of Billy Napier that has to be seen to be believed. It’s odd watching them salivate at the idea of hiring a guy that a lot of people aren’t even familiar with by name. They are convinced, totally convinced that glory is one Billy Napier bite away and convinced he will immediately pants Kirby on the recruiting trail and then on the field. Are these people crazy or dies the delusion just die that hard? They truly think they are national power and their mediocrity since Corch’s fake heart attack is just an outlier.

Florida should have and keep a better program than Tennessee.. If Tennessee starts beating them regularly along with the laying on of the Dawg Wood on their asses, things will get very interesting.
I see UF and UT in a struggle to be the best mediocre program in the SECE. Right now, SC, Kentucky and Mizzo have something to say about that. It’s the most beautiful realignment we could have hoped for.

Soooo… let’s not lose this opportunity for Bianchi to promote for his ol’ buddy Dan. Have him start suggesting that Dan would be the perfect fit as the OC for the Atlanta Falcons. After all, he did great things with Pitts and Trask in 2020. Plus, he has Fileipe Franks to work with and he doesn’t have to recruit. What could go wrong?
Then suggest that Arthur Smith would be a great replacement for the Gators. After all, something… something… NFL experience.
Such a trade!
