Today, in moot points

This year’s NFL draft has Kavion Henderson (Leeds/Leeds, Ala.) thinking hard about joining the Georgia program. With 15 players selected in the NFL draft, the Bulldogs made quite an impression when it comes to thinking of the ultimate football goal.

“To be drafted high, you want to go to Georgia,” Henderson said. “If you want to go to the NFL, you want to go to Georgia.”

Amazing that playing the Cocktail Party in Jacksonville hasn’t dampened his enthusiasm yet.  Maybe Kirby Smart hasn’t apologized for it.  Still, you’d think with all the negative recruiting about it…

Really! That’s your take. Wow! Senator, you’ve turned into the “get off my lawn” guy. Thought your obsession with NIL above all topics was your bill to die on, but now you’ve found another muse to fuel the madness. May need to change your moniker to Norma Rae.

I just don’t get the snark on this topic

It’s starting to remind me of the defense of Mark Richt right up until he was fired and you claimed ambivalence (or whatever your word was) about the whole thing

    • You do get it.

You just don’t agree with it.

Chef’s kiss on misrepresenting what I said about Richt.

If my memory serves, the Senator made his peace with Coach Richt years before McGarity decided to grow a pair. Not “right up until he was fired.” I admittedly was ambivalent until the end, but the Senator was not, to be fair.

I love the revisionist history from everyone who wanted to cling to Coach Richt. But we won 10 games in 2015!!

I admitted I was ambivalent until the end. That was true for ME. The WLOCP in 2015 sealed my thinking on a coaching change. What does that have to do with the Senator voicing his concerns years earlier?

I’m not tracking your logic here.

I wanted to keep Richt because I thought we might end up like Tennessee and Florida. That being said I was pissed off every time we played a top team because I knew that we would lose 3 out of 4 of those games. What we have now we have never had outside of on a video game dynasty.

’80, ’81 &’ 82, UGA football was onto something, loss to pedi state sucked, that loss to pitt was hard to get over, mainly cause I don’t believe we lost it, we may have played not to win it (not to lose)…GO DAWGS!

“I said, as a matter of fact,
when we score our first touchdown, I expect you guys to celebrate
to the point where the official will throw a flag for excessive
            celebration.”….#FTMF

I won’t hold my breath to wait for Kavion or other recruits to explain how the WLOCP in Jax influences their decision on where to play. I also didn’t wait for our record breaking 15 2022 NFL draft picks to explain the same predicament.

Everyone is busting the Senator’s balls over this post, but the quote does seem to point out the folly in Kirby’s argument for moving the game out of Jax. We’re recruiting at a level rarely seen, just won the NC, put 15 Dawgs in the pros, yet some how the WLOCP is holding us back.

Athens is a nice town, the Classic City. Jacksonville is not, period. With its music, culture and proximity decent lakes & bodies of water & 1-2 hours drive from 3 different states that recruits play HS ball in. Kids from Tennessee, South Carolina North Carolina can get there easier than Jax. Kids in Florida can see our game in Jortsville, and we gan blow out the Gators in their home town anyway since they are a sinking program. Folks with lake house’s & mountain houses can attend a game easier in Athens to see the Gators, via with a better home season ticket package, just as much as those with Coastal getaways. Make it be so.

You call UF a sinking program, then say how much better our home schedule will be…make up your mind.

I want someone to ask Kirby about Murray’s comments on how special it is to play in this game. I’d think if anything, seeing Georgia play one of the few traditional neutral site rivalry games every year during a prime Saturday slot would benefit recruiting, not hurt it.

  8. I get you not wanting the game moved, but I don’t really get you not taking Kirby at his word that we could recruit better if the game was in Athens. IMO, it’s all a matter if whether or not the recruiting bump is worth the loss of the WLOCP. Kirby thinks it is. Most of the fans don’t think so, I really don’t think so, but I still believe what he is telling us. Not only do you not believe him, but you even called him full of shit earlier this week.

    • I think Kirby believes it, because he’s fixated on recruiting.

I said in making his comment about moving the game to Atlanta, he was full of shit. We both know that’s not what he wants.

      • Yeah, no. I don’t understand why you can’t get the fact that we could actually HOST players in Athens for a “home” game in Atlanta as compared to a “home” game in JAX. Sure he wants the game in Athens, but I would be willing to bet money he would take every other year in Atlanta, just like he told Tebow. You just want him to be full of shit.

        • What does getting the game in Atlanta do for recruiting that having it in Jacksonville doesn’t?

Again, I get why Smart advocates for going home and home.

As for the “You just want him to be full of shit” observation, c’mon, man.

        • It makes zero sense to play in Atlanta. The stadium is smaller (although nicer). I don’t believe we could host official visits due to the logistics for the coaches between Athens and Atlanta.

I just wish Kirby had said to Tebow, “We’ll play Florida wherever even if that’s the median on I-75 around Ashburn,” but he didn’t. He went on a whining episode about recruiting. He stepped in it.

  9. Move the game to Valdosta high, Field of Dreams style. Teams wear throwback uniforms and have Nakobe Dean sack Spurrier pregame to unite the generations. The Senator can trade his Amelia Island timeshare for that beachfront condo in Hahira he’s always mentioning. UGAAA annex’s the property and builds the bleachers so counts as a home game and Kirby can visit with recruits. Some solutions are just too easy.

Honestly, if the premium games (ex. Oregon) would be added as a part of the home game ticket allotment for STHs whenever the Dawgs are the “home” side as opposed to making STHs go sit through terrible home slates with all of the good games played elsewhere… maybe this wouldn’t even be a conversation?
