Your game day post, Ball State edition

Well, the weather has decided to cooperate by holding off the rain until this evening, so the team and the Sanford Stadium crowd have that going for them today.  That said, (1) it’s a nooner; (2) it’s the second preseason game, this one against a middling MAC team; (3) and the main offensive kink from the opener the Dawgs need to work on is running the ball against a stacked box.

In my mind, that doesn’t add up to covering a 42.5-point spread.  Not that I think Kirby GAS about that.

Today is going to be about polishing last week’s rough edges and taking one last, deep look at personnel before the SEC schedule kicks in next week.  I’ll be curious to see how many of the missing from the opener play today [NOTE:  McConkey won’t be among them.] and I’ll be hoping nobody new joins the ranks of the injured.  Other than that, I just want to see the kind of improvement you expect to see from a well coached team going from week one to week two.  Anything over that is gravy.

You guys can pitch in with your comments, of course.  Hopefully the early game angst will be kept to a minimum today.

The grass is always greener sweepstakes

I have no idea, but I have a strong suspicion that Mitchell will learn at the end of the season what Burton already knows — how it feels to miss the CFP while watching your old team play in it.

Your Week 3 (ND) game day post

Here’s the soup du jour:

And what I’ll be watching:

  • Nebraska at Colorado.  Oh, c’mon.  You’re not gonna watch, even a little?  Supposedly more money’s been bet on this game than on this week’s NFL games.  What a hilarious thing it would be if Nebraska pulled off the upset.
  • Ole Miss at Tulane.  Biggest game at Tulane in decades, supposedly.
  • Texas A&M at Miami.  Week 2 of the Fisher-Petrino marriage.
  • Texas at Alabama.  The biggest game of the day.  I expect the Tide to roll.
  • Arizona at Mississippi State.  I’ll watch a little of this.
  • Auburn at California.  Ditto.

What’s on your schedule?

Best under the radar quarterback in America?

I don’t know if you watched any of the Illinois-Kansas game last night, but, man, Jalon Daniels is a total blast to watch play.  The Jayhawks gave up a late first half score, got the ball back with less than a minute until halftime and then this happened…

There aren’t many college quarterbacks capable of making a play like that.  And he was doing stuff like that all night.

He’s been hurt and he plays for Kansas, so I get why there isn’t a lot of Heisman chatter about him right now.  But there should be.

It’s Saturday morning. You know what that means.

Yup.  It’s time for this week’s hype video.

Rise and shine, campers.  They need you on that line.
