Monday morning buffet

Go get a plate.

  • What cracks me up about this story isn’t that Tennessee cops can’t tell the difference between a marijuana leaf and the Ohio State symbol.  It’s that they think drug dealers are stupid enough to advertise their wares on their cars.
  • Georgia Tech’s participation in the last ACCCG had the effect on FSU ticket sales you might have guessed.  In other words, Chantastic!
  • Georgia announces a study into the long-term effects of high school football.
  • Bill Connelly kicks off the preseason review field with a look at newly minted D-1 member Georgia State.  Based on his piece, anybody wonder how soon GSU achieves parity with Georgia Tech?
  • “… of the 20 Georgia recruits that were rated as ‘2’ or ‘No’ stars during the last 13 years, EIGHT of them were signed in Richt’s initial season of 2001.”
  • I’d find John Infante’s be-careful-what-you-wish-for take on the O’Bannon suit more persuasive if the NCAA weren’t so stubborn about trying to find some sort of reasonable settlement with the plaintiffs.
  • And in non-football (although I guess you could call it tailgating) news, the Maker’s Mark folks have their New Coke moment.

Not to split hairs, but the traffic stop was probably a DEA affair like they run on 95 and 20 on occasion.

New Coke was a cover so that Coke Classic could re-introduce the original formula with corn syrup instead of cane sugar without the public backlash. It was a strategic mis-direction played to perfection.

Maker’s Mark watering down it’s bourbon? Time will tell.

If you’re a purist you can still get the cane sugar Coke at Walmart in the Mexican foods section. If you vacation in the Caribbean all their Coke is still sweetened with cane sugar. Tastes best in the short glass bottles. Maintains the correct carbonation.

Purty good over crushed ice, as well.

Sometimes you can find the regular bottled Coke with real sugar around Passover too (though I’ve noted lately that Kroger has been putting the real sugar Mexican Cokes and Sprites in the $1 bin, so perhaps it’s getting more popular?)

That is not always true. Imported beverages from Mexico and Central America often are sweetened with cane sugar but the price is subject to commodities pricing like other ingredients. One reason for the paper labels on the glass bottle – the sweetener may change if the price of cane sugar is higher. In those instances, the bottler will use another sweetener which is often corn syrup.

A related question: What’s the over-under on Trent Miles getting fired and Jagodzinski becoming the HC at GA State? I’m saying 2 years.

Really depends on if Miles and Rick Minter’s son can field a remotely competent defense. Playing @Bama and @WVa in their first FBS season isn’t going to help, I think.

Who had a Boast tennis shirt back in the day? Boy we thought that logo was a dead ringer for a pot leaf. Of course my only point of comparison was pictures.

The Boast leaf was a Japanese maple leaf. I explained that to my Dad when he quizzed me about my fashion choices. My favorite was the Izod Lacoste knockoff with the dead gator. lol.

As former prosecutor I can assure you there are people dumb enough to advertise their drug use.

True enough, but I doubt many transporters are so sloppy.

The story assures me that some cops are dumb enough to pull people over with no PC, admit to same, then tell an older woman that she should take a sticker off her car to prevent other cops from being similarly asinine.

I wonder what story they would have come up with to make the arrest if granny was riding dirty.

“We pulled her over for improper lane usage as she was driving with her driver’s side tires over the fog line, smelled the strong odor of marijuana in an about the interior of the vehicle, asked to search it and she consented.” (All the cops involved nod in agreement and say in unison: “That’s the way it went down.”)

Makers Mark should’ve taken a page from Old No. 7 and just not told anyone until the deed was done.

If the NCAA loses the O’Bannon suit it’s obvious lots of people are out of business. My guess is one of the first would be Tennessee. Their finances are such a mess with long term contracts and buyouts they are probably bleeding orange (literally) over the thoughts of what might happen.

On the ACC Chump game, this barb was nice …. ” It was the first time in the game’s three years in Charlotte that it wasn’t labeled a sellout.”

Love the “labeled” … kind of like alleged

That 2001 class, with 8 two or no stars, won two SEC Championships and played in Atlanta three times.

Of course, according to the Internet and AJC experts, this year’s class isn’t nearly strong enough to be that successful.
