For those of you frustrated by the second half, realize that’s a game they lose five or ten years ago.

I am exhausted but happy UGA won. Something is missing from this team and has been for years. We have been so close under Richt but it is games like this one that shows something is wrong. I think that Bobo and Richt have been together to long and that makes Grantham the scape goat. We need to let Bobo go be a head coach when he is offered the position somewhere. Don’t burn any bridges because I think he might be a good head coach, but I want him to get his training somewhere else.
LikeLike
Bobo didn’t do 100% of what I was expecting considering how much we seemed to take the foot off the gas once we got ahead instead of driving the nail in the coffin but let’s be honest…. This game was only close because our D was one of the softest that Florida’s seen so far.
LikeLike
Our d is soft but it was only on the field the entire second half because Bobo is in a position way over his head. Another horrible game for Bobo, but typical and expected, score some points and go into conservative, predictable offensive hell. At least Grantham can make adjustments as the game goes on. With Murray graduating it would be best for Richt to cut Bobo and Grantham and start fresh.
LikeLike
Beg to differ with you. Bobo called a game that had us up by 20 at the half. He didn’t make Lynch miss the blitz in the end zone or drop a wide open screen pass where he might have scored and instead turned the ball over on the “backward pass”. Those two plays were FU’s total offense. Grantham’s bone head was the 12 on the field. Otherwise the D played well. We beat FU for the THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR! Let’s enjoy rather than bitch.

If Artie catches that ball, I think he could have probably run all the way into the river untouched. He had blockers in front of him and no one within 20 yards in front of him. You lost me when you said Grantham can make in-game adjustments. Tennessee only scored 3 in the first half. How did that game end up again? Oh yeah, 28 second half points. If we had a D coordinator that was as good as Bobo and no injuries we would be undefeated right now.

Wait, what? Ealey and King were not dominate but were good backs. Ealey had an overly high opinion of himself, but ran well. King was a very hard runner. The problem on O that year was that old recurring nightmare, the O-line. In 2009 the O-linemen were big but soft. Hard to run if there are no holes. That said, the main problem in 2010 was the D. The Dawgs were switching from the 4-3 to the 3-4 and basically couldn’t stop the other teams’ O.

The Fire Grantham people are funny. The D gave up 11 points to Florida, which is 2 more points than the O gave up today. Even with all the blemishes and Florida’s lack of offensive firepower that is both impressive and improvement. The D was the best unit of the 3 against Vandy too. Like it or not but the kids are slowly improving. Yes they may never be elite under TG but credit where credit is due, and don’t be surprised if they continue to improve each week from here on out and by season’s end are a respectable D.
People bitching on here after beating Florida for the 3rd year in a row- no matter how ugly- makes me wonder if y’all lived through 3-18 and had the hungover 7 hour drive home all those years, cause if you did it’s hard to imagine you being anything but elated anytime a game ends against Florida and we have more points on the board than them. They played okay. They didn’t give up any big plays after the deep pass early. Still, they let Florida convert too many third downs, didn’t force any turnovers the too many men on the field on a key fourth down play after a timeout was inexplicable, and Florida missed two makable field goals. Morgan is a sophomore and has been money this year – 11 of 13 on FGs and perfect on PATs. We won the special teams’ battle yesterday because of him.
At the end of the game, there was no way Richt was going to try to kick a FG. He wanted the game to end in a victory formation. When it’s on your side, the victory formation is the best formation in football. 🙂

Florida and their coach panicked. Mark Richt, limp and all, led his team.
No really bad snaps, Marshall Morgan was perfect, Gurley was just good enough, and at crunch time the defense stood up, and at crunch time Aaron Murray took us home.
I know it is long, but once in a while it just fits the discussion, so…with apologies, Rudyard, for the slight modification….
IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings – nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you will beat the fucking Gator bitches, three times in a row…

You said a mouth full. I think Richt is a mighty fine coach.
CMR with the institutional influence of Saban ? There is such a huge difference/contrast in their character/personalities. Do you believe that Mark Richt wields that sword the same way Nick Saban has to achieve similar results? It was great to get the win and that 8 minute drive was similar to all the grit and determination we summoned to run out the clock against the Ole Ball Coach. We will enjoy this one. Glad we have an easy game next week to retool some. Auburn is gonna be tough. The ole high school coach has the read option clicking.

Pyrrhic victories are games where you win, but lose so much in doing so, that you’re doomed for the rest of the year. The Tennessee game comes to mind.

Living here in Duval and dealing with the 90’s when the entire GATOR fan base hopped on the wagon, I’m gonna enjoy this for the next 365 days. 250yds of offense in the 1st qtr compared to 221yds the entire game in Nashville, I’d say Gurley makes us a top 10 team. FSU and UGA are the only teams with 2 wins against top 10 teams. Finally if Murray doesn’t miss Wooten on that throw we blow them out period. Need to run the table

Several close calls that kept it being being a blowout…Wooten’s bobble in the first half too. Shoot, if Lynch catches that ball it’s a 40-yard gain.
The one thing that’s really troubling to me is this team’s fragile mentality. I have to agree with Saban on this one, momentum should never be spoken of again. Just go play the game and focus on what you can control rather than some imaginary muse.

Can’t get enough of beating fu! But gees, CMR needs to get on the assistant coaches and chew them out big time for that 2nd half. Disorganized and stupid. Don’t know wtf UGA coaches do during halftime, but it sure as heck isn’t getting ready for the 2nd half.
CTG’s continued fuck-ups are infuriating. 12 players on the field?! – you’re shittin me! Just plain stupid. Even when the D plays good CTG finds ways to fuck up! Wasting time outs!
And why does CMB go with a 3 receiver passing formation if we’re running out the clock? Bring in Hicks, or replace one of the WRs with Rome. Get some beef in there to block. Maybe even try the wildcat formation to get extra blockers. Gurley does it on his own in spite the coaching.
Any win over fu is a great win! Enjoy it. But when coaches come back to work next week they need to get serious about changing all fuck-ups.

I thought the screw-up that led to the 12 men on the field, and an uncontested first down for FU on a 4th and 2, was actually before that. Georgia was in “punt-safe” meaning the first team D was on the field instead of the ST guys. FU came out in punt formation, then switched to a standard offensive formation. The Georgia D switched, too. We were ready for them! Why did the bench have to call time out? As bad as the Gators’ ground game was in that game, the Georgia D probably would have stopped the Gators short of the first down. If you are already in the right defensive formation why call time out?

On this Sunday afternoon I feel blessed, yet again, to be a Georgia Bulldawg! I find it disappointing that some of the younger Dawgs cannot be gracious winners and must wax eloquent about each and every detail that makes college football the game we all love. Our team has overcome much adversity this year. With that said, I was flooded with peace when our offense–led by Aaron Murray–took the ball on that last, clock-eating drive. Enjoy the victory! Savor the win! If that does not fill you with gratitude today and you feel you know more than our coaches, dust off your coaching resume and apply for a coaching job somewhere. Do not attack the team you claim is your team.

From where I sit, even with the incredibly ugly 3d quarter (which seems to be the new normal), this was just the kind of win we needed. First, it was a win. Second, it wasn’t a blow out, so that probably saves Muschamp’s job for another season or 2 so we can bitch slap his teams a bit more. I’m cool with that.

I don’t want to perpetuate the Bobo haterade bath, but I do feel like chiming in.
Bobo, at times, looks brilliant. Take for instance that 1st quarter. Extremely well balanced, setting up the run with the pass, very aggressive, putting it in Aaron Murray’s hands type of football. It was beautiful to watch, and if it could have continued, we would have run away with that game.
BUT, and this is where my problem with Bobo lies, we went conservative. So conservative that Florida gained momentum through forced punts, and thus, when Lynch makes his bad play, Florida is ready to jump out of the stadium with momentum.
We see this over and over and over again, and I’m so tired of it. We can’t put a team away because when we build any significant lead, we just go into conservative mode. And we’re talking to a point of stupidity. Other team puts 9 in the box? Well, we’re still running up the middle for that 2.5 yard gain, by God!
And let’s not forget that we’re sitting there with a senior leader QB. Why not run some safe pass patterns? Anything to free up that box that’s COMPLETELY stacked against what they know is gonna be a fun. How about a quick slant? A TE out? If we’re going to go ultra conservative, at LEAST mix in some intermediate passes on early downs to free up that D.
Conservative mode is motivationally dangerous. We go cold, and consequently, our hearts aren’t in it, emotions fade, and the other team just builds their own emotion off of that. It’s like we’re waving tons of food in front of the face of a sleeping bear. Why would you do that? This is my problem with Bobo. It’s this way in every game, yet we never seem to learn from it.
Sometimes when you play not to lose, you can forget to win.
LikeLike
Your definition of “conservative” doesn’t make sense.
The play action from the end zone and the turn around TE pass were the most aggressive plays we could possibly run…and both went terribly wrong due to poor execution by players.

Can you imagine the bitching and gnashing of the teeth if we are up say 21 on Tech and keep throwing the ball or being “aggressive” as some of you want and it leads to two turnovers and lets them back in the game? I agree that the turtle approach isn’t the way to go but you can’t say much about Bobo’s play calling yesterday.

I’m against firing any coaches if they can’t address the team’s biggest actual failing this year: tendency to produce catastrophic turnovers on both O and ST. We haven’t really had that many of them, but they’ve been incredibly costly. Lynch’s two mistakes arguably produced ALL of Florida’s second-half points (two short-field TDs and a safety). The TO’s against Mizzou were game-changing. The two ST disasters against Vandy were game-changing.
I’d argue we wouldn’t be talking about firing Grantham or Bobo if we had a ST coordinator (best CBS factoid of the game pointed out 90 FBS teams have them, Georgia not being one of them) and didn’t have to feel relieved if we get through a game without a catastrophic mistake (don’t believe we’ve had a really good PR or even KR this year, have we?). As for offensive turnovers, they tend to be cyclical, but the price we’ve paid this year when they occur would indicate a bit more caution deep in our own territory (contra the general feeling that Bobo is too conservative), or a big emphasis on getting a king-hell LT/TE combo.
LikeLike
We don’t need an ST coordinator, I think you misread the graphic, it said 90 out of 128 teams DO NOT have an ST coordinator. It’s a wasted position IMO. Miss St has one and he cost the Bizzaro Dogs points yesterday at the end of the half when they tried to run the FG team on before the spike to stop the clock.
LikeLike
Not sure you’re right about the graphic, but in any event, I think ST is a more glaring and costly problem than Bobo’s occasional bad calls & (based on other teams’ experience) a lot easier to solve than O or D. Yes, Morgan has been great, but even with him, I don’t understand why we have so much trouble getting kickoffs into the back of the end zone like most teams have been able to do this year after the line was moved up.
LikeLike
We may both be correct Ed. I did some research and we are only one of 25 teams that don’t have a coach TITLED special teams coordinator, however only 20 teams have a dedicated special teams coordinator that only coaches special teams and not another position (most commonly TE’s or DB’s). I still think having a coach that is JUST a ST coordinator is a wasted position, that being said I wouldn’t be surprised to see Richt name Lilly the ST coordinator in the offseason just to quiet all the grumbling and bitching. I think that our ST problems are two fold 1) we don’t allocate enough time in practice to get everything perfect and 2) we have so many young players that are having to learn scrimmage plays as well as ST responsibilities. The majority of the ST gaffes have been a result of poor execution (i.e. bad snaps on FG and 2 Punts, not fielding the ball cleanly on punts). I don’t count the fake FG by Vandy as a ST gaffe, that was just a well executed and designed play.

Georgia came very close to getting screwed by the officials again…two instances come to mind..one on bounced pass that was ruled complete and the other on a bad spot that would have given UF a good chance to go for it on fourth. Only the announcers (God bless them…they pull against UGA but they did the right thing in this instance) shaming the replay official into stopping play saved the Dawgs on these two plays…On the other hand..who goes back 23 games to look at a series tendencies? 25 or 20 I could understand, but 23? Anything to make UGA look bad I guess. They also got the overall history wrong…giving UF the edge in wins…and only changed it when Dawg fans yelped.

It’s so overused and misapplied at this point that the phrase is literally meaningless in the context of Georgia’s offense. Georgia didn’t score in the third quarter? They took their foot off the gas. Didn’t score in the second? Took their foot off the gas. Turned the ball over? Took their foot off the gas. Went three and out a couple of times? Took their foot off the gas. Ran the ball two times in a row unsuccessfully? Took their foot off the gas. Threw short? Took their foot off the gas. I’ve tried to stay out of the debate with they the “yeah but” crowd but I just have to say a few things.
First, this is a win over our most hated rival. Some would say Tech but to me beating Tech is like beating your little brother. Beating FU means so much more on so many levels. Get over yourselves and realize that any win over a hated rival is a good win.
Second, to the whole Bobo sucks crowd you need to realize that only on X-box do you score every posession. In real football there are such concepts as ball control, field position, and clock management. Oh, and college kids do make mistakes and miss assignments.
Next, the ones arguing that our O only functions with an exceptional back, you need to realize that all our skill positions have been decimated and the coaches have done an exceptional job cobbling together a reasonable O. All you have to do is look how feable the Falcons O has been without Jackson, White, and Jones. Yes, you do need exceptional players to have an exceptional offense.
To the CTG sucks crowd, you have had some legit arguments so far despite the youth of the D. That being said we all knew this unit would need time to grow up so we shouldn’t be surprised that has happened. As for yesterday, the D played pretty well. They gave up scores when they were put in bad positions by the mistakes on O and the 12 man call was inexcusasible. But CTG deserves credit for keeping the pressure on and ultimately forcing the punt that led to the final time killing and game winning drive.
We were not intimidated. We weathered their 2nd half storm. We were the better team and it showed.
We beat UF. Enjoy that and quit bitching.
