… is Marshall Morgan, who, as we sit here this morning, leads the SEC in points per game and the entire country in field goals made per game. He’s perfect on all 22 of his extra point attempts, as well.
He’s also the only SEC kicker to make the list of Lou Groza Award semifinalists. Emerson describes Morgan as “the team’s best bet right now to be an All-SEC pick” and that may very well turn out to be the case. And don’t forget, this has all happened after he was suspended for the first two games of the season.
Anybody see it coming? Bueller? Bueller?

I was confident that on that last drive, had we bogged down a bit earlier, he would have made a long one for us.

Ha! This one definitely made me laugh.
Fair point though, if we’re going to hold the coaches responsible for breakdowns, I guess somebody on the staff should be getting credit for the difference from last year to this year with his kicking. Even the long kicks he made last year, they looked like a knuckleball flying through the air. This year his kicks are not only accurate, they’re darn near perfect in flight. Obviously the 3 points counts no matter how it goes through, but something about his form/technique has obviously improved dramatically.

I’d like to say that I saw that he could kick it far and straight much of the time. But the consistent straightness is quite impressive.

He’s one of the reason I think the Dawgs will be very highly ranked (at some point during the) next year…
What’s worrisome…if he continues to be this good, he could go pro early, just like any other player.

Name a kicker who has gone pro early. I’m not even sure Janakowski did at FSU. Kickers don’t leave early. They’re a dime a dozen in the NFL. Enjoy your time in college, get your degree, because you miss 2 kicks in an NFL game and there’s a pink slip in your locker the next day.
They also don’t get drafted highly or get steep signing bonuses because teams know they can find some 38 year-old with 16 years experience who can do the same thing.

Let’s all remember that Morgan’s suspension for BUI was twice as long as Mr. Jeremy Hill’s.

Yeap. We would have a couple years ago vs Fla if Walsh was not in his senior slump that made Richt go for 2 4th down plays that made 7 instead of 3.

Kudos to the young man for this impressive bounceback. Like golf, kicking is so much about mental confidence and he has done a helluva job of clearing the cobwebs after a very tough start last season. Some never make the climb back up the hill. Morgan is indeed a weapon we need in our arsenal from now until the end of his time at UGA. I do hope we used Butler in this turn around, but whatever it was I am grateful for.

I have often thought that the two biggest events that kept this season from being what it COULD have been are (1) Todd Gurley’s injury, and (2) Marshall Morgan’s early season suspension. A fateful boating DUI stood between us and victory in Death Valley.

I agree whole heartedly with number 1. But It doesn’t matter who is kicking if your snapper and holder don’t do their jobs.
