If our acknowledgement that the relevance of the academic side of the student-athlete experience in college football is more than lip service, than this news should be treated as a pretty big deal, if you ask me.
University of Georgia, Rice University, Stanford University and Tulane University will share the American Football Coaches Association’s 2013 Academic Achievement Award, which is presented by the Touchdown Club of Memphis.
Georgia, Rice, Stanford and Tulane recorded a 100 percent graduation rate for members of its freshman football student-athlete class of 2006. This is the first time Georgia and Tulane have received this award, and the second honor for Rice and Stanford.
That is some pretty prestigious company there. Everyone involved in making that happen – coaches, administrators and, most of all, the players themselves – deserve a major round of applause. I’m proud of every one of those graduates. I’m proud of being associated with a school that helped bring that about.
Take a bow, folks. Well done.
But, but, but – Tech is the Yale/Harvard/MIT/CalTech/Oxford/Cambridge/Sorbonne/Heidelberg of the South. There must be some mistake.

Tech does not have a class such as nerd tossing. Ogletree is a model student.

You know the only reason Tech is not included on these lists is because they don’t have soft majors to dump their players into. That’s how inferior school like us and those other three get away with it.
I get all my knowledge from StingTalk, as you can see.

funny how an article on uga football or academics turns so quickly into a discussion about georgia tech. by uga fans, no less.

I was going to say, I think that has more to do with the timing of the article (the week of the Tech game) as opposed to general sentiment among the fan base.
My high six-figure job that I got with my lowly BBA from UGA hasn’t left me with a sense of inferiority about my intellect or alma mater

Geez BBA,

This is going to be a real shock to some PITA Buckeye fans I know. Not only do they insist the BigXX is equal to the SEC in football, they are also convinced that BigXX schools are vastly superior to the SEC academically (partly because of their “much higher” graduation rates).
LikeLike
There’s an easy way to spin it. tOSU’s academics are so rigorous not all of their players can graduate, and the SEC’s academics are so horrible that a chimpanzee with a pencil can graduate. Of course that’s wrong, but that’s how “Academically Superior” schools like Tech or tOSU would spin it.

Not a FU fan by any means but, I know the pharmacists from FU just got done with a major test of their fall semester so, I’d have to say they’re on their Thanksgiving break. I know this because I have three good friends in the program currently. Just thought I’d mention that so we don’t look ignorant while talking shyt to the jort sporting gaytards. As for the others listed, beats the hell outta me!!

But at least you can scroll to the very bottom and find Tech at 55% compared to UGA’s 69% in that survey.

Their BBall rate is even more interesting. 18% ? FU was the only team to surpass them with a 17%. Of course one could conjecture that they went to the NBA moreso than numbers from other schools suggesting that they don’t send as many to the NBA. As long as there are two standards to measure by there will be controversy. It dilutes the prestige of the highest grad rate.

still murky on the details here. So this means every player from 2006-2012 graduated?
If so, why the announcement in November, 2013?
Regardless, pretty amazing.

Seriously, of all 28 players that committed to UGA in 2006 and graduated, how many have degrees that actually mean something? I would guess maybe 4-5, which is a whole lot less than the number of arrests this signing class has had.

It’s amusing that YOU, as the poster of this blog, brought up football academics, which not only are completely irrelevant to anyone else at the school, but your school also sucks at. Half your team couldn’t meet the NCAA entrance requirements to attend college in the first place.

It’s amusing that YOU, the dumbest poster on this comment thread, like to point out what you think to be an irrelevance but, can’t even type correct English grammar.
