“Please understand these types of investigations do take some time to complete.”

I bet they’ll give it their best shot to wrap things up before the Cocktail Party, though.

As of now, it seems like this is a situation that Huntley Johnson could not influence, which means we are in uncharted waters.

Ultimately, it is unclear how large the credit card fraud charges are and how many transactions there were, which is why I am really interested to see how this situation evolves. More broadly, I think that when the details are finally released, it will probably shed light on how nefarious these guys were.

I was assuming it was a one game suspension, and all would be back for this game. Senator, you are almost certainly correct that they will be back for our game, but I would caveat that as…IF they are back. If Cam Newton was dismissed for stealing a laptop, how is theft via credit card fraud materially different?

The ironic thing is that IF they were given a 2 or 3 game suspension, they would have been back for UT had Irma not forced a cancellation last week, which somewhere would mean Karma has caught up with Spurrier. UK has been unimpressive through 2 weeks, but if these guys miss all three games, they could be looking an an 0-3 start and an 0-2 start in the SEC.

Pretty sure Huntley Johnson is not siding with UF on anything at this point. I believe Senator posted an article about it a while back: http://deadspin.com/this-is-what-happens-when-a-college-football-fixer-goes-1797237552 (I know the source isn’t the best).

While I certainly don’t mind seeing shade thrown toward any of our rival schools, I do enjoy beating them when they are at full strength.

Yep, that’s the key. If Huntley was on the mutha, it would’ve been wrapped up before the season started. But I think Bull Gator Huntley is trying to prove a point to his UF underlings about messing with the bull.

This was the take on Orlando sports radio today. Coincidence that Huntley steps away and the Gators run into something like this? They think not. They were also quick to tell any Gators praising McElwain that this is not his decision and is totally out of his control.

IMHO those players are all gone permanently. Plus there likely will be others uncovered by the criminal investigation who will join them. FU has been an open sewer ever since Urban Meyer came to Gainesville. Even though he is gone his stench remains. I feel no sympathy for the Gators. They sold their collective souls for 2 BCSNCs and now they have to pay. I hope this destroys their program because they deserve it. Karma can be a real bitch.

Mayor, agree totally on this issue (and, it seems, several others lately) since this is probably not just a few team members involved. It may stretch further out into a criminal conspiracy of greater magnitude beyond the team that needs investigation. That would mean that Irma has a lot to do with blowing up FU since the delay may simulate the NCAA Ole Miss investigation for more info but on a smaller scale. That will keep players off the field longer and calls the question as to suspension status: are they suspended from the team and practice, suspended from FU (because it’s a criminal charge, you know) , and if they aren’t practicing, wouldn’t it seem likely that they are off the team for the rest of this school year?

Let’s not forget our favorite Trigga Tray Matthews (now a shining example of an Auburn Man) was dismissed by CMR for double dipping the stipend checks. This seems similar

They will them all back the week before the bye so they can totally revamp their offense during the week off into something we have never seen. I hear Chris Rainey is tanned, rested, and ready for a cameo.

    Death by bubble screen!

F the Gators…no need in worrying about them now. MSU is our next issue.

You know I hate this shit for Mcelwain. While, my #1 hope coming into every season is to beat UF, I hate to see a coach, who seems to be a pretty good guy (outside of the shark humping) have to deal with these kinds of issues. It sucked for Richt when he had to go through it on multiple occasions and everyone said we were a bunch of thugs and questioned Richt’s ability to manage his players. He didn’t have any idea they’d do this when he recruited Sanders, Marshall, Matthews, LeMay, DeLoach, Taylor, etc were going to do the things they did and neither did Mcelwain. The fact that he’s doing something about it, unlike Urbie, speaks well of him, IMO.

The players were not suspended by Mcelwain. This is a University Police investigation that is outside his span of control.

I agree that it is hard to dislike McElwain, has been pretty classy despite the school he is affiliated with. Easier to hate players who take advantage of guys trying to treat them the right way and give them every chance to fly straight. These players deserve to be punished, and Callaway should have already been removed from school.

I also agree this is a university call and not the HC. BUT, it was the Florida HCs named Spurrier and Meyer who decreed they might be suspended one game, but they would determine which game, so they sat them in a cupcake game and not one that mattered. Good for McElwain to not pull that stunt. It was Meyer who even went to bat for one of his thugs and got the student council involved delaying any punishment until after the UGA game, then letting action be taken (and I believe he left the team and school afterwards. It was all very public and why there is no doubt what Meyer really is.) Yet you see people put him on a pedestal and hold him up as an example of a great college coach.

. I think there has been a criminal culture on the FU team ever since Urbie arrived. They got away with it for years now they have to pay. This isn’t emerging from an alley. This is credit card fraud with the cops fully involved and I don’t think McElwain can stop it or I think he would.

Is UGA the only SEC school with a Jan Kemp?
She may have gone way over the line, but we’re fortunate today that she exposed and caused UGA to address “the problem”.
The culture and safeguards she forced UGA into are serving the program well today, as is the integrity of CMR.
I would go so far as to say that without JK..we would be more like UF and O’Ms today than we may be comfortable admitting.
There have to be academic professionals that are disgusted by the athletic programs at FU, AU, FSU, Baylor, and others.
    What keeps them quiet?

Ug, I often agree with you but I gotta totally disagree with you on Jan Kemp. She was a malcontent and a troublemaker. She ended up going to jail in a domestic matter with her ex husband for willfully disobeying a court order and stayed there for over a year when she could have easily purged herself of the contempt and been released. Truth is the woman was crazy.

Is this a carryover from Corch? Will the NCAA get involved with this?
Reading the post regarding Ohio U’s recruits calling for a QB change, is OU headed in this direction? When will Urban have to resign to spend time with the family? Pity the next OU coach. Nah, not really.
