Check out the blocking on Clemson’s #90 in the middle of the line.
They’ll do it as long as the refs let ’em.

I guarantee you Kirby will be telling the officials to look for it. The cut block is cheap but legal (although it shouldn’t be). The chop is dirty and unacceptable.

That looked like a chop to me. No. 90 was engaged with center then right side lineman went after legs from behind.

It was definitely a chop.

Every coach that goes against them has been telling the officials to watch for it and they still get away with it.

But but but its all cut blocks, not chop blocks. I am a tad shocked the ACC refs didn’t protect their darling Clemson

If the powers at be really care about players safety, the cut/chop block needs to be banned, and treated like a targeting penalty. It’s downright dirty.

True, get back to me when you change that rule and I might think you are serious about player safety. This is an easier call than targeting, and every bit as likely to ruin a player’s career. Unlike the targeting, it is always a deliberate, premeditated hit.

Is there statistics/data to support changing the rule? Whenever it’s come up publicly, I’ve always heard Paul Johnson say that he knows of no evidence that cut blocks lead to any more injuries than any other kind of blocking, but I have no reason to take that shithead’s word on anything. If they outlawed it, he’d probably retire.

The Clemson D-Line got their revenge tho. I haven’t seen Tech’s OL (and by extension, the QB) get mauled like that in a long time. It was like Varsity vs JV all game long.

Yes, he is. And the person most responsible for their improvement over the past 4-5 years.

Hope Florida or Tennessee isn’t looking at him…..

Florida apparently wants an offensive-minded head coach. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tennessee went defense.

They did the same thing last year.

Yes, it’s often a joy to watch the bugs get pwned by the Tiggers. My second-favorite team is almost always whoever’s playing Tech.

I hope we hang sixty on the dirty bastards. My concern is we lose a player due to injury doing it. I hope Kirby gets knee deep in an official if he sees it, and he will.

With all the supposed emphasis on “safety” in recent years it does seem odd that we haven’t heard a single peep about banning cut blocking. It needs to be outlawed.

If the emphasis was legs instead of heads we would have heard, and it would be outlawed. I guess it’s ok to limp the rest of your life as long as you’re not brain damaged.

How an ACC officiating crew can miss a single chop block by Tech is beyond me. When that offense plays, officials need to be watching for it like hawks because the cut block and its frequent companion, the illegal chop block, is the cornerstone of their offense.

That cut wasn’t even necessary..and all down the left side of the defensive line it looks like one continuous chop house to me.
How the refs let this go, I don’t know. Even if it wasn’t called as an illegal block it is “unsportsmanlike conduct”…same as stomping on someone’s hand on purpose or twisting their nuts in the pile…taking a shot at injuring someones body just because they’re on the other team..classless and dirty.

the way they get away with it is the tackle blocks the line judge’s vision of what they (the guards) are doing. that’s my theory .

Unintentional chop. I like the defensive alignment that caused it.

I hate those cheating bastards for exactly that reason. That block should be outlawed.

There are multiple missed chop blocks every time they play because every play is already borderline chop blocking.
