“I love those type games, especially an opportunity to play in Atlanta, which we are always looking to do.”

Dawgs247:

Dawgs247 has learned that a 2022 matchup between Georgia and Oregon is in the works. According to persons with knowledge of the situation, the game would take place in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and the SEC vs. PAC12 showdown has not yet been finalized. Those same contacts, however, indicate that final word could come in the next couple of weeks.

It is unknown at this time whether the game would be associated with Chick-Fil-A as one of its kickoff games, but with the game taking place in Mercedes-Benz Stadium between two non-conference teams to begin a season, its almost certain that will be the case.

I’d rather this be a home-and-home (weren’t we all looking forward to a trip out there a few years ago?), but at least it beats opening with Austin Peay.

  1. I was really looking forward to that trip to Oregon. It was going to be my excuse for 3 days of golf at Bandon Dunes.

You don’t need an excuse to go to Bandon Dunes–just go!!

If I were still doing the golf destination bucket list thingy, I would crawl there. I didn’t miss much in my time, but that one sounds like a trip you will regret not doing. As for Autzen, I would do that trip for the cheerleaders alone. Wish we would have rescheduled that home and home rather than a MB game.

The gameday atmosphere in Eugene is a lot of fun. The tailgating scene probably wouldn’t impress too many people who’ve grown up going to Athens, but they set their IPF up as a sort of biergarten where there’s all kinds of stuff going on. Back in 2011 I remember enjoying a fine local IPA whilst kicking back in front of a bank of TVs and watching Georgia dumptruck a ranked (ok, #25, but still) Tech team. And right after that there was a performance by the cheerleaders/dance team… and yes, Mac, they are everything you’ve heard and then some. 😉

Yeah, class by themselves. And you are right, I wouldn’t expect the tailgating to compare but the atmosphere looks fantastic, especially given the West Coast reputation for lack of passion.

No shit! on the Austin Peay reference. Senator, I posted on yesterday’s B. McMurphy story with a reference to Deadspin for added context on the porn follow-up. Reading how WWL kicked themselves in their own balls on this story will warm the cockles of most hearts here.

Amen on the AP game in 2 weeks. One of the worst games we have ever scheduled, and at one of the worst times. UGA had won so much respect nationally last year, this entire schedule will waste that step forward. All on McDoofus, Kirby ain’t skeered.

      • They are ranked in the preseason top 25 for FCS. Other notables are Kennesaw at 5, Samford at 10, Nicholls at 17, and Furman at 21. I would say Tennessee Tech and Coastal Carolina were worse FCS games than AP. Not saying I like it … it just is.

Historically they have been beyond awful, went years without a W as I recall, but last year were 8-4. The perception may be worse than what it seems when you analyze it but it the opener for God’s sake. Think about it though, they are well behind newbie Kennesaw! Our guys need something to keep them focused during the August heat. Should always be a good, to great, Power 5 team, imo.

Who honestly cares ab FCS rankings for SEC opponents?

          Like

          • I don’t … I’m just making the case they aren’t as bad as some of the FCS opponents we’ve played.

I hate those games, but if everyone else is scheduling them, I would at least like us to play opponents considered to be at the top of their division.

I see your point. For me there is no difference in value between top ranked Sunbelt opponents and the bottom of the FCS barrel. Understandably ymmv.

So, not the new Las Vegas kick-off game? OK. That’s cool. I’m down with playing Oregon even if it’s just a one shot deal in our home away from home.

Playing a high profile PAC 12 team in Atlanta in front of a crowd of local Georgia fans and alums. Hell yes!! And no, we don’t want home and away. Eugene, OR is one of the hardest places to get to on earth.

Better than Austin Peay for sure. Home and home would be better. Sure Autzen is hard…why do so many want to avoid hard?

Because we don’t want to lose right out of the blocks and fuck up the whole season at the beginning. Go back and look at the w-l records for UGA teams that lose the first game. It ain’t pretty. Play ’em in a bowl or a preseason bowl where Georgia has the advantage but not at their place.

  10. “ATHENS, Ga. — What was initially bad news for Georgia coming out of its second preseason scrimmage has gotten worse. Dawgs247 has learned that freshman running back Zamir White suffered a torn ACL in his left knee and will miss the rest of the 2018 season.

White suffered the injury while covering a punt during the Bulldogs scrimmage on Saturday. It’s the same injury he sustained to his right knee back in November and ended his high school career.

Smart confirmed the injury to reporters after Saturday’s scrimmage but didn’t reveal the extent of it, but persons with knowledge of the situation informed Dawgs247 shortly after practice that White will have to undergo surgery to repair the torn ligament.

“Yeah he was on punt cover. He was covering a punt,” Smart said. “And it was a non-contact injury. There was nobody really around. He and Mark Webb were kind of holding each other up. But we don’t know anything yet. He’s getting an MRI right now. So it’s a left knee. It’s his non-surgical knee. I can’t tell you much more than that.”

How awful. What a tough, tough thing to have happen.
I can only imagine how frustrated Zamir must be feeling.

Bless Zamir with the courage of Nick Chubb. We do not have a reason or know of one that and I don’t care if it’s on punt coverage or the ugly, unfortunate injury to Nick in Knoxville.
Zamir has over come so much to be where HE is. His life itself is a blessing.
Dawgs are just blessed to have him. Winners never quit and losers never try ! If he never plays another down his presence alone makes that locker room a inspiration ! Not for US Dawg People who now look at what We deserved from him but What He means to the Spirit of Dawg Nation !

We got to go the opener two years ago in the Dome but we used to get SEC championship tickets too, I wonder with the new Magill donors if we will be out of luck when it comes to watching this game in person.

I am with you on this one. 20,000 fewer seats than a home game is another reason I don’t like these neutral site games during the season.

  15. Autzen is a great place to go and see games. Their crowd, though, is on the same level as the UF crowd. It probably would not be for UGA but all the games I saw there were for UW or Oregon St. Nasty crowd. Eugene is a great town.
