To be fair, I am not sure how much of a deterrent that the loss of block seating for Western Carolina will be: @CecilHurt

Alabama cleans out its student section mid game, a spectacle that helps create a LSU upset and relegates Bama and Tua to an Orlando bowl.

    Lol. Please make this happen.

Hope the Student Section shows some cojones and everyone possible gets in with a folded protest sign. I’d like to see them unload the Student Section en masse. That would be a riot that is riotously hilarious.

That Fanbase doesn’t have any experience booing bad calls, so it remains to be seen.

The letter should have been sent to the President who cares nothing about football and is actually disrupting the game for paying fans. He should stay at home.

My understanding (from a Red Elephant guy) is that there is no place for Air Force One to land, so the problem that presents is that AF1 will have to land in Birmingham, forcing either a Marine One landing or a motorcade between the Ham and Tuscaloosa, which is going to cause all kinds of problems.

And I think we can be bi-partisan in saying that this would be a tremendous pain in the ass to deal with no matter who the President was. It just seems especially needy after his last few forays into public sporting events.

I’ve got a sneaking suspicion Bama isn’t going to put you know who up on the video board. I don’t think Alabama wants to risk the news coverage that will inevitably come out of negative (or positive) crowd reaction.

Didn’t he leave in the middle of the NC game a couple of years ago? It’d be one thing if he was really a fan of one of the teams, or a family member playing on either team, or something like that. But to cause all of this disruption for a game you don’t even care about? Ridiculous.

If the Bama President kicks out to many kids and attendance is low next week will Saban rail against the Bama President in his press conference about fan support?

Aren’t liberals supposed to be the delicate snowflakes? Booed at the World Series, booed at a UFC fight of all places – at this point if the man wants to stop being booed at sporting events then he should stop fucking going to sporting events, especially considering he doesn’t give a damn about football to begin with. The lengths he and his people go to inflate and protect his paper-thin ego are, as he would say, SAD!

If it’s anything like the 2017 NC game, fans had better start lining up to get in the stadium right now.

  11. Why do you guys try to turn this into a political forum. I could give a rats ass about your political persuasions. You are NOT going to have any effect on mine and I don’t give a crap about yours. I can turn on the TV and get all the politics i need, maybe you guys should try that! Give us a break, there are numerous political sites you can participate in so knock yourselves out. I think most of us would prefer talking sbout sports.

Sorry for forcing you to click on and read this obviously political post, bro. Didn’t realize that you couldn’t so much as be exposed to (re-reads post) the idea that someone might have a differing point of view than yours without getting upset. Snowflake.

You goddamn ingrate, you should be thankful for every political post on this page! Maybe spend half a millisecond around here before you hit send on your little rant. These bitches and turds cry about black jerseys, then cry in their piss-soaked “Inner'”Munsons” because they don’t get to be in the Cult of Preacher Coach anymore and that’s before the gutless “I played football in the Seventies” lectures on how Kirby Smart (their Daddy) doesn’t know anything except how to be arrogant.

Just put a “Thank You” in every reply or suffer in silence.

My “Inner Munson” does not smell like piss, thank you, and he was dead on about South Carolina.
He was also dead on about Notre Dame twice and also about Florida this year. AND he hates SEC officiating.
I should pay more attention to him…..

How is it not state-action/1st Amendment violation to punish student speech at public school based on content (ie – Trump bad)?

    • Depends on what “disruptive” means. Booing would be a 1A violation IMO, but behavior might be a different story.

Is the SGA an arm of the state?

      • Doesn’t the school fund it?

The school may fund it, Senator, but that doesn’t make it an arm of the state. Many student newspapers at public schools are at least partially funded by student fees and other state funds, but that doesn’t mean the school can dictate content. In fact, there’s a huge stack of decisions outlining all the ways the state cannot interfere with such content — including yanking funding for content administrators find objectionable. I know you’re a lawyer, but trust me on this one.

As someone who works at a large public school in a position that often puts me in contact with SGA kids, my strong suspicion is that the Student Body President was talking right straight out of his ass and can’t deny anybody shit. The university’s general counsel probably got to him between the original message and the walkback.

              • According to this story, “At Alabama, like many other colleges and universities, the student government association is in charge of allotting funding to student groups.”

That sounds pretty arm-ish to me.

I guess I’d have to research Alabama’s setup specifically, and I’m not ready to invest that much into it. I’d suspect that while the SGA does decide on respective groups’ funding there, administrators almost certainly have some signoff/veto power if those students’ decisions run afoul of the law. I’ve worked at another school (Clemson, actually) where it worked exactly that way. So in that way the SGA may be an arm of the state in the way that student media groups expressly are not. I doubt they’d be considered an arm of the state in any action where no funding was attached — if the SGA passed a resolution in support of “women’s reproductive rights,” for instance, it would be in direct contradiction to “the state” broadly, but I don’t think the university could make them “take it back” — but in this case, you’re probably right, now that I think about it.

As to the matter at hand, I still stick by my Student-Body-President-talking-out-his-ass theory. And I’m pretty sure somebody got to him after that post and told him something that prompted the walkback. Let the SGA deny funding (or block seating, or anything) to a group based on legitimate exercise of First Amendment rights and see what happens.

The SGA would get sued and lose on 1A grounds, which is why that second statement was issued.

I have said it before and I will say it again, I don’t give a shit who the president is and whether I voted for him or her, I don’t want the president to attend any game I am attending.

I understand the need for security. Let the president watch it on television.

To me, it says a lot that anyone would feel it necessary to send an email like that. Why now? Why in Tuscaloosa of all places? What exactly are they worried about? I guess they might be worried about a response if LSU won the game. 😉 I wonder if the term disruptive behavior is warning they are all on double secret probation?
