James Cook is the new “involve the tight ends”.

OMG.  Please, just stop now with this, Kirby.

Even with the Georgia offense sputtering, Cook only has 3 touches in the past two games. Smart was asked about Cook this week and did speak on the desire to get him the ball more often.

“Yeah, I wish I could get everybody more opportunities in space. He’s a good player,” Smart said. “We’ve got to keep trying to find roles for him. He’s been an impact player for us on special teams and we’ve got to keep doing that with him.”

They didn’t even have Cook returning kickoffs in the Florida game.

Why? He could be the starter in 2020. Certainly will be sharing the load with Zeus.

Just sounds like a coach talking to the recruiting circuit to me. Which means getting ahead of the transfer news.

Could be but that may be too little, too late. Cook may see a path, but hasn’t made the impact anyone expected at this point. WR and TE recruits are going to just look at the results/stats, and we are not good at winning that game regionally, or nationally. UGA just isn’t going to look as sexy as it did when we, seemingly, were getting everyone we offered. Kirby is too aware of every nuance of the recruiting trail, his job will be much more difficult going forward with receivers.

Sad part is his philosophy of teaching them the whole position (catching, route running, and blocking) is helping them get to the next level, but how many see that when the stats are missing. Bama and LSU are prime examples of why we should have been looking for ways to transition to a hybrid of the pro-style offenses they had run before.

They’re on pace to have the best or second best recruiting class in the country, including two of the top 20 receivers in the country. TE is an issue, but the doom and gloom from some of you after a month of mediocre offense is fucking absurd.

It doesn’t even go to “mediocre” unless we have forgotten how it may be in the arena for our players.

Haven’t read all comments, but the ones I have read have not mentioned a pass reception over the middle in the FU game for a first down and the receiver was – ta-daa! – a TE, Woerner.

This is Kirby encouraging a player that (I think) needs to keep working. I haven’t personally been very impressed with what Cook does when he does have the ball–doesn’t appear to read blocks well and runs laterally too much.
But he could be used as a slot receiver the way Herrien was against UF, though, right? They must have thought Herrien did a better job in that role in practice because he was the one out there getting passes thrown to him (and making “holy shit” catches).

He’s not big enough to run through trash so he’s situational at RB, at best.
With the dearth of experience at WR, you’d think he would have worked his way into a role in the slot. That he hasn’t surprises me because his route running at camps was the thing that stood out the most to me. I thought he was a Percy Harvins kinda cat.
If he wants to play RB, he needs to go out West.

Watch him explode in the NFL like Alvin Kamara

Yep, they will figure out a way to use his talent instead of forcing him to fit in a box.

What an original take! He’s gonna be just like Alvin Kamara because all 5 stars out of high school that don’t necessarily meet expectations in college turn into Alvin Kamara’s. Just look around the NFL at the hall of fame careers other UGA 5 star greats had after we misused them like Jasper Sanks, Caleb King, and Richard Samuel

How did they waste Hardman? He was second on the team in receptions and returned 34 kicks. Do you guys just bitch for the sake of it?

When we played good teams, they had no idea how to get him the ball.

Is that enough for you bitch?

No Georgia receiver averaged more than 40 yards a game, and they all had dead games. If Hardman was wasted, then so was everyone. I’m sorry they don’t throw the ball as much as you want them to, but it doesn’t justify the complaint. Note that I didn’t insult you as you did me. Let me fix that, asshole.

Let me start by saying go fuck yourself. If you’re going to get upset that someone calls you a bitch, you probably shouldn’t have started by telling them that they bitch.

I didn’t bring up that other receiving talent was wasted too but since you walked right into that…yeah, you’re right. None of them have the talent Mecole has but they were still underutilized. So, thanks for supporting my point. I’m sorry you’re in love with Kirby’s offensive approach but at least you still recognize that it’s wasting talent.

Back at you. Go follow a different team that airs it out if you want. I don’t care one way or the other on the offensive approach. If they were to transition to a more open offense, as long as it was effective, I wouldn’t long for the days of pounding the ball. The offense last year was elite, so I don’t think any of the players were “wasted.”

People get your point. Just don’t be such an ass making it. You’re justifying your name calling and insults because he used the word “bitch” instead of “complain” or some other synonym. Grow up, dude.

Yes! Clearly Coley should spend the off-season trying to learn something from Kansas City. No problems with putting speedsters (who don’t have to be 6’5″) in space (or in space, in motion vs catching passes flat footed).

I’m most curious about his practice habits. His lack of use just makes me wonder but we’ll never know. He sure would be a scarier decoy in the slot than the Tight Ends. I can see him transferring for sure.

He should transfer and I would encourage him to do so. Kirby is doing a phenomenal job of wasting offensive talent. Eventually that will hurt him with recruits. I hope it doesn’t take that long for him to evolve away from manball but I fear it will.

Kirby says “We need special teams players.”
Swift has a electric geaR but couldn’t get a 100 yds vs UF, Herrien is a great story and has done well and exceeded expectations.
I don’t sense the same unity in the RB’s room as with Michael and Chubb. Maybe it’s the ManBall mantra.
Certain teams you can just see the chemistry in. More depth = more competition. Coaches can coach but they can’t make players get along and hangout.
There is a locker room social pecking order and anyone that has been in any teams locker room can quickly pick up on. Even offensive and defensive teams have their each to their on Personnel Groupings. It take a physiotherapist to bring together a10 room roster of say115 kids to one common goal and keep them team oriented and less self centered.
Every one can’t be a star that was rated a 5*, someone is always gonna be a backup and a third stringer. With the holy grail of football recruiting and we have as fans taken this an run in media’s wide open arms of recruit vids, announcing of commit dates; It’s never ending ! The kid that was All World at his high school and town finds himself on the bottom of the dung heap.
I am glad to see UGA has initiative to hire a staff of mental and social workers to help out these fragile minds.
James and Zeus will be great UGA players if they are mature enough to hang in there. Currently the game has gone to what I’d refer to as the the NBA fast break 3 on 1, there has gotta be at least 5 block and that leaves 6 others with just one ball to go around x 3 teams deep ( if not 4-5 ) and you could end up with as many as 30 dissenters among just the 85 limit.
Come on Dawgs We need Momentum going down the stretch. No more ugly wins. We have had our share. Instead of everyone chopping individually let’s all get it the same row and hoe.

Unfortunately for Cook he selected the wrong school to showcase his ability. Not dissimilar to Fields, Kirby isn’t changing his offense for anyone. I’m not saying this is good or bad…. Just that’s the way it is.
