The greatest trick Coach 404 ever played…

… was making me feel sympathy for Georgia Tech.

And, no, I’m not being snarky when I say that.  I’ve seen a lot of bad Georgia Tech teams over the years, but I’ve never seen a Tech coach concede a game the way Collins did yesterday.  It was late in the first half.  Tech had just forced a rare three-and-out and had the ball near midfield with about a minute to play.  Take a shot and try to force the action, maybe?  (It’s not like Collins had anything to lose there.)

Nope.  This, instead.

I turned to my brother (thanks for the seats, bro!) and said, “you guys just surrendered”.  Back at the post game tailgate, my brother’s friend said the same.  So did Jeff Schultz ($$).

It was 24-0 when Georgia was forced to punt for the first time in the game and the Jackets got the ball in good field position at their own 42 with 1:33 left in the half and three timeouts. What do they do? They ran the ball twice for 3 yards each, sandwiched around an incompletion. That’s what waving the white flag looks like.

I may not have cared much for the genius, but I never saw him do anything as craven as that.  If you’re a Tech fan, what do you do when your coach essentially quits on his team?  And if you’re a Tech player?  Well, I give Tre Swilling credit for keeping his dignity here:

He’s a better man than I probably would have been under the circumstances.  I can’t help but feel for him a little.

Collins currently has a good recruiting class coming in, by Tech standards, anyway.  I can’t imagine what he’s saying to recruits about his program, though.

Collins is the Equate version of Dan Mullen. He’s mildly annoying and clownish and can’t rise to really punchable. Why couldn’t all this have happened to Fish Fry.

At least Pickens didn’t throw Swilling into the wall this year. That would have been embarrassing on Senior Day.

Fish could have won the ACC this year…frankly, I’m glad GT fired him for this clown they currently have.

  4. What?!?!?! Feeling sympathy for Tech? Sorry, no. Wreck Tech. The hell with Tech.

Coach quit on them? Hahahahahahaha. Good.

    Screw those arrogant nerds.

    Thanks for the shutout, twits.

    15-0.

This is our fucking year. Everyone who stands before us gets destroyed.

The 2021-2030 decade of college football will be known as the Bulldog Era.

Do any of y’all know any normal Tech fans. I do know one. He grew up in Marietta and was a Georgia fan all his life. He wanted to be an architect and went to Tech. He absolutely admits all the things we say about Tech fans are true and he makes fun of a lot of things about Tech even if he wants them to win. He also doesn’t root against Georgia when the two teams aren’t playing.

    • I actually have a friend (and Tech grad) who hoped the Dawgs wouldn’t hurt them too badly yesterday and who said she was pulling for the Dawgs the rest of the way. I wondered what alternate universe I had entered.

I knew one. Played for Pepper. Originally from Michigan, He started a contracting business as a second career about the same time I started my plumbing business and was one of my first customers. Big, strong, funny sumbitch and was great to work for.

The NATS’s AD should go to all of the Bug rich people out there that we’re always told exist by their idiot fans, and demand the money to be able to buyout Gee-Off so he can hire Jamey Chadwell.

Jamey Chadwell could take this NATS roster and win 8-9 games next season. His offense, which is like Fish Fry’s offense with a competent passing game, is dangerous.

If I were the NATS AD, that’s what I would do. Thank God I’m not, and their AD is a dumbass.

Break them, Kirby! Leave Saban making excuses and making aights and talking how these are just college students. Kirby can go a long way toward ending this Saban crap for good with a win Saturday. At this point I don’t believe little Nicky is willing to do a bunch of explaining.

Yeah Bluto, I got sympathy for tech. Right here in my Webster’s dictionary somewhere between shit and syphilis.
    To hell with tech.

Orlovsky called it during the game. When Tech got the ball, he said something to the effect of “take a shot right here, don’t just go run, run, pass.” And he called them out for doing just that after it happened.

Yeah, I felt sorry for them, especially when our fans made so much noise it caused their offense to commit a false start penalty. There were a sprinkling a Tech fans around me in Section 223, but they seemed to be there out of a sense of duty, like attending the funeral of an uncle they weren’t particularly fond of. Our fans didn’t even deem the Tech fans razz worthy; I heard a couple of “What’s That Comin’ Down the Tracks,” but that was it.

Any time I started to feel any amount of sympathy my mind returned to those fuckers trashing our hedges… Karma.

And… yesterday was beyond Vanderbilt levels of takeover. I’ve been to a lot of games and don’t remember anything really close. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was 85% red. Thoughts??

I tend to think of Tech as our little brothers just like the 2 GSUs. I don’t mind putting them in their place when they challenge. But ultimately these teams play for the state and mostly have kids from the state of GA so I root for them against others.

Ga Southern fans showed their true colors in ’15 and got their comeuppance against Ga State the next year.
It ain’t pretty or deserving of my loyalty or sympathy.

Until 2015 I always thought fondly of Georgia Southern and really hated that we played them because it was not necessary and didn’t help either program. After the 2015 game I had a new disdain for their redneck, big mouth, unnecessarily arrogant, white trash fans. They showed how they really felt about Georgia so I feel perfectly justified in adding them to the list of teams I don’t like.

If, round this time of year in 2026, we’re celebrating our ninth win in a row over the Jackets, i might start feeling a little sorry for them after that. But not before.

I was 16 in ‘99 when Jasper was down. I trashed my parents’ upstairs bonus room in a fit of rage as those douche bags stormed the field like they’d just won WWII. I hope we beat the smug little bastards worse every year until they dissolve the entire program. Fuck THOSE MuFuckers!

Rarely have I seen a team other than a triple option team try to run out the clock in the first period. He was just hopping he could get us to pull the first team before we had scored in the 50’s. It was a good win but kind of like beating your kid brother at HORSE for the fiftieth time.

Tre Swillling, at the end of his little talk, encouraged the NATS to hang in there that “the best is yet to come”.
Wow. Who’d have ever thought that they could be even better than they are?

They surrendered before the game even kicked off. I noticed no trash talk or chippyness from tech players the entire game. Saw several times where our guys helped their guys up and gave them a pat on the helmet. You don’t do that if the game is a real rivalry. Kinda sad really.
I haven’t watched Tech play much this year so I wasn’t familiar with which guys got the majority of playing time besides Gibbs, but I did check out their roster before the game. They have a handful of transfers that originally signed as four stars at bigger programs. Antonneous Clayton, Derrick Allen, Kevin Harris, Kenyatta Watson, Miles Sims, Marquez Ezzard. I didn’t hear any of their names called once or notice any of them on the field. I guess there’s a reason they didn’t get playing time at their previous schools either.

With all the Georgia fans there, I’m kinda disappointed they didn’t do another event recognizing and honoring Richt during half time at a place he had so much success.

That was shameful, and it let any of his players who were trying hard to know that they shouldn’t bother. Stay healthy for spring drills, boys.

I’ve seen some truly bad Georgia Tech teams line up across from Georgia but I have never, ever seen a Georgia Tech coach come into the game with a game plan that is clearly designed not to compete but only to limit the damage. Compare what Geoff Collins did in Year Three of his grand plan to what Sam Pittman did in Game One of his rebuild with an Arkansas team that hadn’t won an SEC game in more than two years. Collins came out and milked every second of clock he could in the huddle from his first drive. He clearly knew he couldn’t win so he wasn’t going to try. He was going to run the old Four Corners offense and just hope the score wasn’t bad enough for him to have to sell his house by the end. Sam Pittman came out and he told his boys to hit ours in the mouth and see if we were actually as good as we were supposed to be and see if we’d fight back. He gave us a hell of a game that day and that’s why Arkansas fans love to have him. Tech fans, meanwhile, would love to have someone buy their guy out if they could find a deep enough pocket. Their guy came out on the last day of the third year of rebuilding their program and declined to compete.
