It’s truly a surprise when the first hit brings him down.

I saw this yesterday and had to wonder if it is really correct? His TD reception went at least 10-15 yards in the air, which would mean the rest were basically thrown behind the line of scrimmage???

I just went back and watched the highlights from the offense because I didn’t believe it either. Upon watching it again, he catches everything behind or at the LOS except for the one deep pass down the right sideline he takes in for a TD. If you take out that pass, his average depth of target has to be negative.

The 41-yard TD pass was caught at the 23, so 18 yards on that one catch. -8 on the other eight combined?! Crazy.

His 2nd TD catch came on 3rd & 9 when the line of scrimmage is almost right on the 10 yd line. Bowers’ feet are lined up on about the 13 yd line. Once the play starts, he backpedals a little as if he’s in pass pro then drifts out to the left and catches the ball on the 15 and takes off for the endzone. So just on that one play, his depth of target was -5 yards. That’s assuming you count depth of target from the LOS, not from where the QBs feet are planted when he throws. I have no idea if that’s correct.

I’ve never seen a tight end who looks to score a TD after he catches every ball. All other tight ends in the country rumble out of bounds on that long catch against UAB. He puts on the brakes and beats two guys, because he can.

HI footwork is interesting, no? He does a lot of stutter-stepping to change direction, but his ability to get his feet in the right places on sideline/end zone catches is otherworldly. The catch in the end zone against SC last year: on first view looked like it was incomplete, but he actually got down not one, but three (!) steps down before falling out of bounds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO8ThzSYk08

Upon hitting his 3rd or 4th stride (shifting into 2nd gear for all you gearheads) #19 appears to lower his mass, very seldom do he run in the straight up position, which means velocity times mass divided by inertia will equal bad angles and rough going for those wishing to make contact with #19 after the catch…as with the “Displacer”, when #19 moves on in life, UGA football, Dawg Nation will then know just how good/valuable/extraordinary/excellent/kind of once every so often person Mr. Brock Bowers truly was…GO DAWGS!!

  7. I am waiting for a team to put a spy on him figuring the best way to stop him is to make it to risky to throw him the ball.

Doesn’t that also speak to the perimeter/WRs blocking well? I’ve never loved tight ends as much as the last couple years. Without Brock and Darnell, we don’t win 2 nattys, maybe not even one.
