“Some of y’all could do the research.”

I know most college football coaches are famously known for wearing blinders when it comes to news outside their own programs, but this strikes me as a little extreme, even for that:

Of course, Hugh may have been just a little preoccupied back in 2017, you know?

Full disclosure: it was Hugh Freeze’s Ole Miss team that put such a beating on Georgia in Kirby’s first year that made me wonder if if we had made a monumental mistake.

Freeze is one of the very few offensive minds who managed to have consistent success against the Saban/Smart defense. That concerns me, more for future years than this one. I still wish this game was in Athens, though. The SEC certainly could throw us a bone with the repayment of that back to back road trip bullshit.

Hugh won with 23 points in 2014. Not exactly an offensive explosion.

He won the turnover battle 5-0 in 2015 and won by 6 points.

But he did beat Saban’s Bama team twice. So did coaching genius and legend Les Miles.

Malzahn did it thrice. You know how poorly we did against that guy…

I mean, that’s fine, but Saban had better players than Freeze did. Much better. The talent gap between Georgia and Ole Miss in 2016 wasn’t glaring, either. I would certainly argue that Freeze is going to have the ability to pull better players in at Auburn than he was able to at Ole Miss. He did have some eye popping success with some of his recruiting down there, and we know why, and we also know that most of that’s at least somewhat legal now and Auburn perfected skirting the rules a long time ago.

That meager total of 23 points he put up in ’14 accounted for the third-highest total Alabama surrendered all year behind 44 to Auburn and 42 to Big Ten champ Ohio State.

I’m concerned about what he’ll be able to build there offensively in the future. That’s not the same as saying I think he’s going to elevate Auburn past us. But I don’t see Auburn being the same pushover win that they’ve been for us over the last five years or so.

The way Hugh accumulated talent at Ole Miss is now legal for all schools. Kirby is on the mother and we will beat Auburn like a rented mule.

The Big Ten Champ you mention had a true freshman and a 3rd stringer at qb and posted 42.

            Hugh got 23.

Awesome. I stand corrected, Georgia will never be challenged by Auburn under Hugh Freeze and we’ll be winning by 65 points over the next three years until he resigns in disgrace. The man knows hookers, but he certainly has no idea how to run a credible college football offense. I am laughing so hard at Auburn for hiring him.

I read or heard on a podcast somewhere that when Freeze was fired at Ole Miss Alabama had him come in informally to speak with their coaches about his system and why it worked so well. The long and short of it was that the Bama coaches (I assume Pruitt and Saban) were shocked because it was not complicated at all. The QB could only check to one or two plays and those plays were just simple concepts (I do not mean to sound like some film douche because I am not) but made the Bama defense do something more complicated instead of what would be apparent to do.
None of the above is to say that Freeze can’t coach. There is no way you get to be the type of shitbird that dude was and is even at Auburn without knowing what you are doing and I think his answer in the clip is just him either being coy or attempting to deflect in regards to expectations as there are some Auburn fans who I guess only remember Pat Dye’s first 3-4 years who have a much higher expectation as to where they should be by game 5 of year 1.
Kirby no doubt remembers 2014-2016 and how his defense performed and will have the team ready for this weekend.

Yeah, he did beat Saban twice but still couldn’t win the west. You know the one thing you never ask an Ole Miss fan for? Directions to Atlanta.

        • Freeze was also 1–3 against Gus Malzahn—you know, the guy Auburn paid $21 million to go away just a few years ago.

Freeze simply doesn’t look complete without that dwarf on his back proclaiming to Saban, “Privilege revoked!”

To be fair to Coach Freeze, he was too busy begging his wife to look the other way in 2017 to pay much attention to who was winning the SEC or winning the Rose Bowl.

I’m glad Auburn didn’t hire a decent human being for a coach. Hating Auburn is so much easier when they maintain their sleaziness through their coaching hires.

He’s sleazy and boring. At least Kiffin is endearing in his own way. I’m glad he didn’t end up at Auburn, I’d have to stop enjoying his antics.

Freeze is the perfect fit for the Auburn Culture (sic): Talented and sleazy. Just like Bruce Pearl, who is a sanctmonious sleaze but also an excellent recruiter and game day coach. Freeze’s tactics worked at Ole Miss, but may be out of date now in the age of NIL. Everyone has a head start on that, and the historical bagman system over there is as quaint as a horse and buggy in the age of Lear Jets.

Given the beat down he put on us in 2016, it would be quite a surprise to think that team was ready to win it all, and deserved to, a season later.

Rumor has it Freeze is hiring Mel Tucker so he can look better by comparison. The Auburn trifecta, Freeze, Pearl and Tucker….I love driving in my truck.
