Blame Bobo.

Wondered if this might be coming…

Though it would probably mean a pay cut for him if he got the job.

I see it as almost a courtesy on both sides. For GSU you don’t want to ignore the best assistant in the state, especially as you prepare to move up to FBS level. For CMB, it’s good experience and preparation for the next one that might really be something he is interested in pursuing.

  2. He has to talk to them, for personal and political reasons. But it wouldn’t be a good move for him, IMO.

Now Grantham, that might be a good choice for everybody. 🙂

Having run the wishbone, GSU is particularly impressed with CMB’s penchant to run under-sized backs into the line in long yardage situations.

  4. I wonder if this is Kirby Smart’s attempt to do some negative recruiting in South Georgia.

This is just a courtesy interview.

My sources in South Georgia say that the Paul Johnson is their #1 candidate.

CPJ wants to get to school that can compete with SEC talent.

I live down here in the land of the Eagle flying. They won’t offer it to him and if they did, he shouldn’t take it. Folks down here still think that b#llsh*t option offense that CPJ was running today is the only way to go. The next guy that GSU hires will struggle (whatever the offense) in the Sun Belt. It is going to be a tough first couple of years with the transition. UL Lafayette ain’t Elon.

As a fellow southeast Georgian, I came here to say the same thing: I think GSU hires another triple option disciple. Erk installed the option at GSU and it has proven to be a winner for them time and time again. After CPJ left for Navy they spent some years in the wilderness with Van Gorder, Sewak, Hatcher, et al, until former CPJ assistant Monken reinstalled the option and took them to the FCS title game then beat Florida in the swamp. Given that track record, I believe they’ll be looking to hire a coach that will keep the TO.

This would be a terrible fit–a school that runs an option attack and a coach whose expertise is the pro-style offense. Why in the world would he even take the interview? Maybe he saw what happened with Malzahn and Freeze. I think this is bad, very bad.

They are supposed to announce Thursday or Friday this week who the HFC is…you say interviewing after Gator Bowl and another site says he already interviewed…I’m against it and most Eagle fans would be too, but if he’s chosen I’ll back him 100%…till then we run the TO and do it with pride

What do Jimbo Fisher, Art Briles, Charlie Strong and James Franklin all have in common? According to the WWL they are all finalists to be the next HC at Texas. Looks to me like one of those names is an oddball and shouldn’t be included–guess which one.

Me too but he’s a talented OC, excellent QB coach and a great recruiter. Like Richt at FSU, Bobo can be selective about what head coaching offer to take. I bet he gets an offer that surprises his critics. When it happens the good thing is that Richt will still be around to hire and groom another excellent OC just as he did with Bobo. Then we’ll have a new guy to blame and that’s always exciting.

Mike Bobo won’t be the next heade coach at Ga Southern, he wil be the next head coach at the University of Georgia.

At least GSU beat the Gators. And for that we all should be in their debt.

Appreciate the allegiance to past success at GSU, the TO served them well when there weren’t many options (pun intended), but there are many superior examples of spread/options available that aren’t as limited. So why would you follow the model of GT, Navy, Army, etc., when you have successful spinoffs utilized at schools like Oregon, Baylor, Auburn, Oklahoma St., Mizzou, etc., that can utilize many of the HS QBs not built for the classic Pro Offensive set. These offenses allow the passing game to succeed when opponents overplay the run, or when you get down more than two scores with time running down. The last offense I would employ if hiring a coach these days is what those unsuccessful schools were doing. I realize Bonehead Van Gorder screwed them up a few years ago but he didn’t appear to have a plan.

  16. Bobo would have to be out of his mind to take that job. He needs to sit tight & only interview for big-time jobs. I mean, he runs Richt’s offense, it stands to reason he’ll follow Richt’s career path.

Does anyone else think that he and Kirby Smart are in a competition to see who can hold out for the best job?
