Fuel up for a big weekend.
- It’s not that I think the NCAA made a bad decision in Braxton Miller’s case. It’s that I can’t understand why it can’t avoid nitpicking more often.
- Okay, so there’s one thing that favors G-Day over the Masters: at least nobody’s gonna confiscate your cell phone in Athens.
- Here’s another example of how schools spend money promoting their academic mission.
- Marshall and Hegedus may or may not play tomorrow.
- Mark Richt feels like it’s his failure if he has to kick a player off the team.
- Then there’s Chris Conley.
- Interesting factoid: “In 2015, the SEC does not have a single alum head coach and South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier (Florida) is the only one who even attended an SEC school.”
- Good news on the Leonard Floyd front: “Yeah, he should be full go in June, right in there,” Sherrer told reporters on Thursday. “Possibly before then. Just going off the time frame they said when everything happened. He’ll be fine this summer.”
Always someone else’s fault or some extenuating circumstance. I always love the freedom of knowing that I get to leave my phone in the car when going to Augusta. It’s nice to know that there are places that still have rules and enforce them.

Agreed, folks know the rules. Leave your phone behind every once in a while…feels great..

People who use cell phones in restaurants in particular really get me shaking my head, particularly couples out on what should be a really nice dinner. They should save the $100+, and stay at home with takeout or pizza delivery and a cheap bottle of wine.
With that said, I love how some restaurants now forbid cell phone use while dining.

Why do you care how people spend their money or their time?

I don’t; just opining on the overuse of cell phones in society today. Nothing more or less. When I see a couple at a nice restaurant on a Friday night staring at their smartphones for the duration, I find that odd, and my wife and I will wonder about the overall happiness of their relationship, as it basically looks like a bad first date. That doesn’t mean I want to take their cell phones away (though again I love restaurants with certain policies) or force them to stay home and eat Digiorno pizza; just that, IMO, they’d be better off doing so.

Folks sitting in a restaurent yapping on a cell phone are just plain f’in rude….

So you’re spending time at this very same restaurant shaking your head and staring at people staring at their phones? Maybe they’re texting each other about the weird couple staring at them.
You worry about 3rdandgrantham. It’s not like people spent every available second interacting with each other before the advent of smart phone.

I do not know if it was a personal misperception or how we played him, but I always saw him as something of a possession receiver. Can’t wait to see what he gets into over the next few decades.

Augusta National used to ban blacks and women. As of like 10 years ago. Are we really shocked that they ban cell phones?

So you’re saying if you are a black woman, you have a chance?

? “No Phubbing Allowed” The nerve of those folks at Augusta National. And they’ve banned cameras too! LOL I suspect you might be trolling a bit. But don’t you think that taking awkward pics of golfers and posting it on internet sites has a lot to do with it. Think about the OBS pics. Right before a big putt someones cell phone goes off. Do you want Tech fans watching Bubba putt with a cell phone in hand?
You probably already know that it’s rude to use a cell phone on a golf course. After all, being quiet on a golf course is a known rule of etiquette. Be aware that your own actions may be the cause of a slow down in group pace. If you need to make or take a call, review an email etc, excuse yourself from the hole, head to the next tee box, make sure you aren’t interfering with another group and do your business. Your penalty for phone use is to not finish your round! Miss Golf Manners.

Not sure why the ban is there (but with Augusta National you really can never tell) but it seems odd. Considering the media is posting weird awkward photos of the fans (sic patrons)

They provide a bank of free phones on the course. It is an amazing experience even if you don’t love golf. They post signs all over before you enter the course reminding you of their policy and have lockers available for you to store stuff. Love the Masters.

The Augusta National Golf Club never banned blacks and women from attending the Masters. They also have had black members for over a decade and women members for several years. The cellphone ban is to prevent some bozo’s cellphone from going off at the top of a golfer’s backswing causing him to miss a shot. Most of the better golf courses (public and private) have a similar ban on cellphone use on the course for the same reason–no tournament required. If you can’t stand to be away from your cellphone for 1 day don’t go to the Masters and don’t play golf.

“Leonard Floyd….the potential first-round NFL talent should be back at full speed in the near future.”
I understand Floyd is a physical freak, but he’s got to show more production on the field for me to think he’ll be a 1st rounder. Jarvis (late 1st round) and Justin Houston (3rd round) were far more productive for the Dawgs.

Sometimes the scouts just fall in love with people. And it all about the tangibles. His height, his wing span, his speed and first step. Plus look at the past, Houston was a 3rd round pick and is a beast. Geno Atkins was a 4th round pick and is one of the best linemen in football. All of those will play on the scouts minds, when they see Floyd in person.

1st round is a stretch for him at his point. I see him as a solid day two pick with hopes he can rack up 12/15 sacks this year. That may push him into mid/late 1st round.

I don’t know about 2nd day but if he gets drafted in the 1st round UGA will have gotten a dominating performance from his position all year. Granted, the draft factors in future growth of players, and Floyd has a marketable frame, but he needs big production on 2015 to make the first two rounds. He, and Jenkins, had their biggest moments in their first year; this is the “money year” for them and UGA fans will be the beneficiary of the increased drive.

Enjoyed the Conley article. But the fact that he can actually function outside of football may actually be held against him by some NFL scouts.
