They’re gonna need a bigger cannon.

UGA’s staff knows that the talent margin is closing, that we are no longer a team with a couple of nice pieces – that we are getting deep. Sandridge was a cannon shot. A championship playoff run, at a position of need, and we still get the commitment – regardless of what is being written about currently (and make no mistake, it isn’t a coincidence).

It has been a long time since we’ve been this deep. On the staff and on the roster. It’s the middle of July and we are all in the same range of commitments and we are ahead of them. Pressure is all on them.

Hey, how’s that whole pressure thing working out?  Okay, I guess.

The latest addition to Georgia’s 2018 recruiting class has pushed the Bulldogs to the top of the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings. Independence Community College (Independence, Kan.) defensive lineman Jermaine Johnson committed to Kirby Smart and his staff on Thursday night, allowing UGA to surge past Alabama for the No. 1 spot.

Georgia finished 2018 with the nation’s top recruiting class and it’s well on its way toward getting there again, with just 17 commitments in its current haul. With that number of pledges, the Bulldogs still have fewer than any other program in the top five. Alabama has 20, Texas A&M has 24, Clemson has 22, and Oregon has 19.

Maybe more impressive is the fact that Georgia has an average rating per commitment of well over 94. Johnson, who has a rating of 94 according to 247Sports (he hasn’t yet been rated by the rest of the industry so his only ranking is with 247Sports), actually caused that average rating to go down.

South Carolina still finds itself sixteen spots down the list from Georgia in the 247Sports Composite Rankings this morning.  The good news is that the Dawgs’ rise has been stopped by math — you can’t go any higher than first.  Now that’s pressure.

The athletes we’ve been getting at DE/OLB are just plain scary. The other sec east schools should forget about recruiting the Sandidge-types and start loading up on OTs. They’re gonna need em.

Well, shit. Now that we’re at #1, all USCjr has to do to close the gap is move up any # of spots at all.

    Canon shot indeed.

  3. It is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen a Gamecock write. And they have written some pretty STUPID stuff over the years.

  4. Would it be safe to say that Gamecock fans are the Cubs fans of college football? BTW, in all my years for enjoying college football, many the dumbest utterances I have ever heard have come from South Carolina fans.

I’ve been making that comparison for years. I can’t anymore, though. The Cubs actually have some hardware now.

No, because Cubs fans are a group largely comprised of casuals who are cubs fans because it’s trendy. South Carolina is a relatively small one and it’s never been trendy to be a sahkerlina fan. Plus, hardware.

I really hope that Cocky Talk scribe is aware of his newfound fame.

Saw an SB Nation article that stated UGA has a bigger recruiting and talent advantage over the East than Bama has ever had over the West.

I really hope we go nuclear on everybody in the East this season. We’ve got them staggering on the ropes with one more knockout for a TKO when it comes to unstoppable program momentum.

Frankly, it may already be too late for them.

  8. By the end of the year they’ll ask us about how it was funny how much ink was spent on worrying about Sakerlina, and we’ll be like, “Who?”

I have never seen a fanbase so invested in trying to get another fanbase / team to consider their team a rival. They are OBSESSED with us and making us view them as rivals; as equals.

When you think about it, it’s kind of sad. If they’d had gone into the ACC, their natural rival Clemson would be there and they would probably have struck up a nicely heated rivalry with NC State as well.

As it is, the only real rival they have is with Clemson. We just don’t have any room at the inn for a “rivalry” with Sakerlina. We have Florida, Auburn, Tech, Clemson, and for some in DawgNation, Tennessee.

So if they’re standing in line, they’re behind Tennessee, whom half our fanbase doesn’t really consider a rival, and won’t ever consider a rival, because they never were a “traditional” rival prior to the SEC splitting into divisions.

Poor Sakerlina. We have four true rivals, another division-mandated rival of geographic convenience, and you’re over there with just one, piddly rival. I can understand why you’d be obsessed with us, but you’re just not on our radar.
