Top of the heap

Pretty succinct summary of the CFP race from Bill Connelly ($$):

… The top of the College Football Playoff rankings consists of four unbeaten teams (Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, TCU), then two teams that have lost only to top-ranked Georgia (Tennessee and Oregon).

As resumés go, that one’s pretty stout.

I see Georgia, two teams that have lost to Georgia, and three teams that have not yet had the opportunity to lose to Georgia.

I was kinda pulling for Coach Lanning and the Ducks after week one, but since their qb started running his mouth again I hope we get another shot and blow up the scoreboard, or at least Bo Pic-6.

And two teams that got BLOWN TF OUT by UGA.

    Fixed it for you.

But we need an expanded playoff…

  6. Georgia has topped 2 top-6 teams, and has the 45th ranked schedule or something.

It’s a shame we can’t get a bump for playing Georgia 3 times a week.

Clearly we need to invite 8 more teams that UGA can beat soundly. This 4-team format just doesn’t work.

I think the expansion is good, but in one way, it seems kinda useless. It’s just delaying the inevitable. Just a few more games that UGA has to win to get to the NCG. It’s kinda like what I use to say about basketball; Why play 4 quarters and end up 110 to 108? Just play 2 minutes and let it end at 10 to 8.

My conclusion is that the team doesn’t give a shit about anyone’s “inner Munson.”

On a separate note, “strength of schedule” ought to be heavily weighed by the toughest games. Playing Ball State and Bama for instance is tougher than playing Louisville and FSU. Two ok teams is two chances for a loss, yes, but not if you are a contender while that single game vs. Bama would be a far bigger deal.

2nd week of CFP is basically preseason rankings since we are 5 games weeks from seeing the real deal shake out, but would love the CFP to show the current vote gap between us and the other teams, but naaah we ain’t ever getting that kind of transparency. This is because of the CFP committee’s sole existence:

To manufacture an image of 4 teams’ parity in order to maximize TV & Media rights $$s.

  12. I’d opine on the likeliness of us playing Tennessee and/or Oregon again in the CFP. But I don’t want to get ahead of myself.

STAY FOCUSED ON STOMPING MSU AND UK.

Appears we’re just clinging to those wins against Oregon and Tennessee.
