Wednesday morning buffet

Hi, I’m Bluto.  I’ll be your server today.

  • Somewhere in this great land of ours, spring practice starts today.  Yay!
  • On the other hand, I’m not sure I want to live in a world where this is possible.
  • The Mike Hamilton incompetency watch continues.
  • Way too early starters projections at DawgPost, if you’re interested.
  • Skip Holtz utters the “g” word.
  • Here we go:  more Charlie Weis-will-wave-his-magic-wand-over-the-Gator-offense speculation.  Isn’t it implicit in this kind of talk that Urban Meyer wasn’t an offensive genius?
  • Here’s a walk through of the contracts Georgia has with its non-conference opponents over the next three seasons.  Well played, Florida Atlantic.
  • And talk about your perverse incentives“South Carolina coaches had better hope their math is correct. They oversigned thinking several of their recruits wouldn’t make it academically. If they guessed wrong, Spurrier could find himself getting ripped…”

Lowndes had players sign with Tennessee and Florida State this year but I believe their best player was a guy who signed with USF. I’ll be calling him this afternoon about this news. I hate it for him but I still hope it won’t affect his scholly. He’s a good kid who didn’t come from much, and really wanta an education. In choosing USF, he passed on Miami with their instability and the distance from South Georgia.

    He certainly wasn’t last year.

Ya, between only coaching half-time and depending on Addazio he did a very mediocre job.

Guess he will have to be content with his two NC footballs.

Indeed. And to paraphrase a UGA fan; ‘even though he was one week away from wandering around the streets of Gainesville in his underwear, and even though he had one of the worst offenses in the history of Florida football, he STILL found a way to beat the mighty Bulldogs.’

So, does that mean that Mike Gundy’s man card is now revoked?

Wow. SOUTH FLORIDA is oversigning and gray-shirting? Maybe this really is a thing.

Or maybe Skip didn’t fall far from the scumbag tree.

Depth Chart: They’ve got A. Jones starting at DE. Are we that depleted or is he supposed to be that good? Admittedly, I don’t follow D-personnel like I used to.

Also, I’m sure Zander is a tough kid but something about the Figgins at FB really makes me excited. That is one big dude. If he doesn’t win the starting job, that brings up some tough questions in my mind.

Third, haven’t we been hearing what a beast R Samuel is supposed to be at LB? I thought the only reason he didn’t start last year was injury setbacks.

I don’t think he was ever schedule to start last year. I’m sure injuries had something to do with it, but the position switch did too.

Where else would Abry line up? The guy was a starter for most of last season, and he was a highly regarded guy coming in. I think with Big John eating space up the middle, it should free up A. Jones and D. Tyson both to maul some guys.

At least that’s what I am hoping for.

Here’s hoping Charlie uses the same magic wand in Florida that he used in South Bend.

Wow…Clempsun took less $$ than the little guys in exchange for having an advantage in refs both home AND away.

Ya know, it is, indeed, amazing that Mike Hamilton keeps on keeping his job.

Of course it is possible nobody wants his job.

Hamilton has done more long lasting damage to UT than Damon would have done if he had had a car-load of panties.

My UT-fan neighbor has even taken his 98 national championship signed poster down because he said he burst into tears every time he walked past it.

I don’t know if Phil Fulmer would be any better as an AD than Hamilton, but he could not possibly be any worse.

For all his faults Phat Phil loved UT. I don’t think Kiffin would have been able to screw the Vols so royally had Fulmer been there. as AD. He should have been given the option of being kicked upstairs and Hamilton should have been shown the door.

Shhhh. Don’t say that too loudly. We should actually contribute $$ to UT if it would make them KEEP Hamilton as AD.

It is very early to assign/guess starters for the first game but two things jump out at me:

    1) Is Crowell that good to be named the starter by all three “experts”? I realize they aren’t involved in the selection, nor that close to the team but that is surprising. I just hope he is just close to being that good. HW didn’t get in until the 4th Qtr against TN. Maybe they think the two experienced RBs will be suspended/ineligible, and our RS Frosh was a dud. From what I read IC got shut down in the state championship game against the best competition he faced. I know Boise returns a lot talent on defense, and they shut the Oregon running game down flat in 2009 with Blount playing.

2.) I was surprised that Samuel didn’t get any nods for LB at an open position. Practice reports had him showing pretty well during his redshirt year against our starters. Maybe he will just play a lot and not get the opening start but we sure need help stopping the run and I had hoped his athleticsm would provide some support. I heard somewhere he was up to 230+ and we know he has great speed.
