Hooker-free, but tasty.
- I really thought Cornelius Washington would have a breakthrough season last year. He’s still got time, though.
- Ditto for Marlon Brown.
- What does this say about Georgia Tech’s recruiting?
- Number 2 jerseys at Ohio State: “But we don’t have any plans to mark them down. There will be another No. 2 that will come along.”
- As a Georgia fan, I consider myself attuned to preseason happy talk. And this definitely qualifies. Welcome to dealing with mediocrity, Gator fans.
- Check out the top of Pete Fiutak’s “The Next Big Thing” list.
- “No one was going to pick on me.”
- Too bad there isn’t a YouTube clip of this.
- Here’s a terrific story on Stan and Jay Rome.
- Aaron Murray, Morgan Newton and John Brantley are checking you out.
All Ohio State jerseys are Number 2.

I’m excited about Marlon Brown’s potential this year. I think we’ve been spoiled by A.J.’s greatness and forget that it sometimes takes a few years for a talented player to be ready to perform at the SEC-level. I want to say that it took Mo Mass and Reggie Brown some time to get to the point where they were play-makers and reliable contributors. I think the same will be true of Brown.

That’s a good point. It also translates at other levels: when Roddy White was drafted, he was underwhelming his first season or two, but I heard Gil Brandt on a call in show explain that it takes a year or two for a receiver to develop from college to pro, and that he thought Roddy would be great. Many of us at the time thought he was being diplomatic, but it sounds like he knew what he was talking about. Here’s hoping Marlon can do the same.

Well that and the fact that he stopped partying all night and eating at Mickey D’s 3 times a day. Seriously, he didn’t even have to order any more at McDonald’s. They saw him pull in the parking lot and had his order ready when he walked in the door.

Not disagreeing with your logic but Massaquoi had a great freshman year and (along with Sean Bailey) was one of Shockley’s favorite targets.

I was a little confused by that last bullet point until I realized the Oxford comma was absent.

Same here. I was wondering why three SEC quarterbacks would be looking at me.

Well, I knew they weren’t looking at me. I put a piece of tape over the camera built into my laptop.
Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you.

the comma goes inside the quotation marks, by the way. Just sayin’…

Nuh uh. It doesn’t.

uh, yeah. It does. Always. But, ddn’t just take my word for it, even though my credentials (which I admit you don’t have any way of knowing) are pretty good. Don’t feel bad; I see people butcher this rule time after time.

Rule 1.
Periods and commas always go inside quotation marks, even inside single quotes.
Examples:
The sign changed from “Walk,” to “Don’t Walk,” to “Walk” again within 30 seconds.
She said, “Hurry up.”
She said, “He said, ‘Hurry up.'”

Thanks 81. I’ll remember. I sometimes blog incorrect English usage for effect, but that is no excuse for remaining ignorant. One of my purposes for blogging was to attempt to pick up various ways that emotions and actions are expressed. Although it was to help in book compilation only, I still was going to seek an editor to share in the book before attempted publication. I’m woefully aware of my shortcomings and woefully unaware of how much remedial work is needed.
Interested?

Do you agree that “All’s fair in love and war”? That is an instant of where it does not go inside the quotation marks.

The Jay Rome story is a very interesting read. Sometimes, the most powerful influence to keep a kid on the straight and narrow is seeing someone close to him who didn’t and paid the price. Stan Rome deserves a lot of respect for getting his life back on track and for working so hard to make sure his son doesn’t make those same mistakes.

Agreed. Nice story and it really makes me want to root for Jay Rome for more than just the obvious reasons. I hope he succeeds.

Speaking of nice stories, did you know that David Pollack and David Greene played Pop Warner football together?

Another nice story is that Dwight Howard and Josh Smith went to the exact same pre-school. What do you think the odds are that two kids from a class of 20 -25 where the population is under the age of 5 would end up both being drafted straight out of high school in the NBA?

Appreciate the enthusiasm from Murray. But 12-0? Ok, let’s back up. Let’s just try and beat a winning team this year, how about cutting down turnovers against Florida to just 3 this time, that would be an improvement. Considering Richt’s lost 8 out of 10 last games against ranked teams, odds are stacked against the kid. But hey, anything’s possible. Are you sayin’ there’s a chance?

With Coach James Franklin’s successful recruiting and participative coaching, I’ll bet that Vandy will be fun to watch this year. It wasn’t that long ago that they beat our butts and are capable to do it again in any given year.
