Just stupidity for stupidity’s sake…UF went 4-8 the season prior, but 2014 was the worst team in 30 years.
What I can’t figure out is that UF and UT were basically identical teams last year…one got the coach fired and one has the program as an ‘up and comer.’ I just don’t get that.

Nashville may be hot – but all of the excitement is in East Nashville and Vandy is in the West End. I think it only takes it because of size.

My initial thought was who the hell is number 1? After reading the article, I’m calling BS. Everybody has their own opinions as to best town, but Nashville in incomparable as it is not an SEC town.

I have a strong bias towards college towns, not colleges stuck in metro areas, and I have never been to Columbia. MO so I have to divide my preferences into college towns to visit for a weekend, and medium sized cities that have a university within the city limits.
Athens, Oxford, Tuscaloosa, and College Station in that order for “true” college towns in the SEC for me. Nashville is a clear winner in the metro area schools, followed by Lexington, and Baton Rouge. Nashville has become my favorite Southern city but I have enjoyed Lexington a lot. I have no idea how Knoxville got ahead of Lexington and Red Stick in that poll but as you said, everyone has an opinion so their reasons are as good as any others. But unless they were blinded by having a hostess take care of them, I don’t get that one. Other than the heat factor, Gainesville would be ahead of Knoxville on my rankings.

Agree with just about all, though I personally would rank Baton Rouge below Knoxville (Lexington, as you opined, is far better than both). Columbia (MO) was a pleasant surprise for me, though the overall topography was boring and the stadium itself was borderline a dump.

I must confess, it is the food in Louisiana that makes me keep them on all lists. Traveled this country for decades and if if the Cajun/Creole food is hands down the best cuisine/area of the US for meals. Other than that, BR (and LA as a state) is a dump to me, although I do enjoy partying and mingling with the Geaux fans. While I wouldn’t expect a lot from the stadium, I agree with your comments about Columbia. MO, I have heard the same from others….just couldn’t say where to put them because I have no personal experience with that specific area but I generally like the Midwest as an area of the country. Maybe middle of the pack?

I like the Midwest too….in fact I fly over it all the time (sorry, couldn’t resist). Yea, I’d put Columbia in the middle of the pack, though the downtown has some charm, plus it backs right up to campus like Athens/UGA.
I’m frankly surprised Tuscaloosa was ranked as high as it was, as I’ve never cared for the area; not to mention that most parts of it are quite seedy. I’m guessing Bama’s football success had something to do with this, as pre-Saban T-town was typically ranked quite low in various rankings.
As you touched on, when I visit places like BR, College Station, Starkville,Tuscaloosa, etc. it really makes me appreciate where I grew up, my UGA/Athens years, and where I live now.

Don’t know, but I’ve previously gotten in an argument or two here with a few UGA die-hards, who felt that the Athens area was just as much of a mountain town/region as Charlottesville/Shenandoah Valley.

I’ve been away for a long time, but I find that bizarre. The rolling North Georgia countryside is beautiful, but I never even thought of it as the foothills. Of course, I also had never thought of Commerce as being within commuting distance of Atlanta.

If you’re from South Georgia (and I mean the real South Georgia, which has NOTHING to do with Macon), Athens seems quite mountainous!
After all, the Classic City does have an Alps Road.
