Back to the chafing dishes, folks.
- The NCAA refused to let Ed Orgeron speak at a charity event because… education.
- Another day, another concussion lawsuit.
- Latest national title odds have Georgia at 25-1.
- Dan Wolken asks, “Why is Ole Miss going to these incredible lengths to protect Hugh Freeze?” It’s a fair question.
- Here’s al.com’s latest SEC hot seat ratings.
- Can you name the five college programs that have appeared in every AP preseason Top 25 poll since 2005? (I bet you can name the only one of those five that hasn’t played for a national title during that stretch.)
- The NBA commissioner is struggling with the one-and-done issue. Here’s an opinion piece that argues one-and-done hasn’t been that bad for colleges.
What a damn shame.

I swapped FSU for USC, but got the others correct. I considered the Trojans but thought they had more ups and downs that the crimiNOLES.

Regarding the Ole Miss article, I loved this part: “But the underlying message of Ole Miss’ defense, both in terms of the head coach responsibility charge against Freeze and the lack of institutional control charge, is that there were no red flags to suggest rules were being broken.”
Indeed. I mean, a mediocre at best SEC program suddenly attracting 5 star recruits from Chicago that every program in the country was after; and getting the signature of another athlete who was heavily leaning/committed elsewhere (Tunsil/Georgia) until right before signing day — who never even made an official visit to your school no less — yep, no red flags to see here whatsoever. Unbelievable.
Where there is smoke, there’s Ole Miss (and Auburn too for that matter).

One possible reason that Ole Miss is protecting Freeze so stridently is that Freeze has the equivalent of naked pictures of the entire administration.

“naked pictures of the entire administration.” Ewwwww…I need a drink.

my guess is that he did exactly what they hired him to do, so part of that was an agreement to protect him if it came to it.

They get it.
To compete successfully against the SEC West, you have to play by their ‘rules’.

You sir are correct.

That plus he knows where the bodies are buried in Oxford. If the Ole Piss leadership threw him under the bus Freeze would make sure he didn’t get run over alone.

and there in lies the rub. He knows too much. The no red flag thing is a joke and they know it.

There is an interesting story going around that might have had, or might have some impact on the number of Sterno cans under Booch’s chair.
The story goes that the powers that be at UT offered the AD’s job to Phil, who accepted, then the powers that be at UT changed they minds and asked Peyton Manning to call ole Phil to give him the bad news. Which Peyton did.
Clearly Phil Fulmer trod heavily on somebody’s tender toes, somewhere, sometime (in line at Calhoun’s ?) but the winner in all this soap opera-ness is Booch…at least till Alabama beats the shit out of Tennessee, again. Firing Phil, again, and firing Booch (for the first time?) at the same time was just too much for the UT folks.
At least Peyton did not tweet his message to Phil.

Random thought about the one and done, if they push the age limit up a year, that’s gonna create one year where the draft is absolutely terrible, because the one and done stars will have to sit an extra year.
And I have no doubt the Hawks would somehow end up with the top pick in the one draft that didn’t have anyone anyone worth taking. 🙂

Hawks? I thought they moved and became the Minnesota Timberwolves right after trading Dominique to the Clippers for Manning in the early 90’s.

Ole Miss cannot afford to cut Freeze loose as long as the investigation is going on, that is what keeps him off the hot seat. TN has gotten pretty good at excusing anything regarding their football program, the fans seem blind to the shortcomings of their coach. Hard to believe Sumlin would be rated below Jones but, as much as I like him as a person, the Aggie fans will not put up with this level of performance much longer.

It would be a very wise thing for UT to swap Bootch for Sumlin. The toothless idiots will never do it, though.

If I had been asked, I wouldn’t have guessed that Freeze was 19-21 in SEC play, so why the hell are they fighting so hard for him? Does he have pictures or know where the bodies are buried?
I saw a spreadsheet format of the allegations and admissions in the case, and Ole Miss was admitting most of the Level I violations and at the same time denying the ‘lack of institutional control’. Kind of hard to swallow, but I’m not on the Committee.

Apparently, Hugh brings in unprecedented amounts of money. Gotta protect the gravy train. Let’s not forget though, it was Hugh himself who publicly challenged anyone with any information to come forward. Ask and you shall receive.

I think when he was hired part of the discussion with the Ole Miss AD and etc was about how far would you go to win and they don’t want that to come out IF they p1$$ off Freeze. Going back to Coach Cutt part of the reason he was fired was that he refused to cheat or that was the rumor that was going around.
If Farrar doesn’t get some favors from Ole Miss he will start singing because the fall guy either has to be stupid or willing and so far he doesn’t seem to be either.

If your argument is “nobody knew what was going on,” isn’t that an explicit statement that you ‘lacked institutional control’ ?

If the Ole Miss defense is all about the money, then the NCAA will roll over like a pet dog. CFB is after all, all about the money and the Committee on Infractions is made up of college administrators and coaches. Truly a jury of Ole Miss’s peers.
