There’s always something to fill the ol’ chafing dishes.
- As expected, the NCAA Division I Board of Directors ratified the adoption of a measure that will allow athletes in all sports to transfer once without sitting a season. The gold rush is officially on!
- Last night, the Florida legislature passed a bill delaying the start date of its NIL law by one year.
- The SEC announced the coaches’ appearance schedule for this year’s edition of Media Days.
- Does the news that Bank of America Stadium is changing its field from grass to artificial turf in time for Georgia’s opener make anyone the least bit nervous?
- This is what a house cleaning looks like.
- Danny White wants a full Neyland Stadium sooner rather than later: “For our fan base, we’re asking for everyone to consider getting vaccinated.” One slight problem with that — “… the state of Tennessee is fifth nationally as far as the fewest percentage of residents to receive at least one vaccine dose. The Volunteer State, according to the same survey, also has the fifth-highest percentage of residents who are still uncertain whether they will get vaccinated.”
- Dennis Dodd itemizes all the potential road blocks an expanded college football playoff would face. To which I can only retort, “but all that money!”.
- Apparently this was said with a straight face: “LSU interim President Tom Galligan said Friday night that administrators were looking for some additional way to discipline Ausberry that would be meaningful to him and decided on not allowing him to attend football games for the upcoming season.”
What’s the rationale for delaying the effective date of the NIL law? How do the fors and againsts line up on that?

Curious about that as well. It looks like Florida’s law was set to be the first in the country to go into effect. Maybe they got cold feet. Don’t want to be last, but no need to be first.

“In approving a bill barring transgender athletes from participating in women’s college sports, Republicans slipped in an amendment to delay a law allowing college athletes to cash in on their likeness until 2022….
Republicans balking on the NIL issue is notable, as they have repeatedly tried talking tough against the NCAA regarding the transgender athlete regulations. As the NCAA threatened to pull events from Florida, Republicans repeatedly stated they would stand up to the organization….
The one wild card is Gov. DeSantis. He can still veto the overall legislation, which would both ax the transgender athlete regulations and also leave the NIL bill as is, with the July 1, 2021 effective date.
It’s unclear whether DeSantis would buck his party on such a heated issue, especially after the transgender athlete provision was pushed through so dramatically. But such a move wouldn’t be without precedent. Earlier his year, Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas vetoed a measure denying transgender youth certain health care options.”

We in Georgia can’t say much about title pawns especially considering one of the biggest title pawn lenders in based in the great state of Georgia. 😉

Expansion will happen in the format ESPN wants when Mickey makes the financial commitment worth the expansion.
Kirby apparently was on with PAWWL and supports expansion. I’m sure the playoff bonus in his contract has nothing to do with that.

Probably…..I know some won’t agree here, but it wouldn’t be the same without ole Derek.
I don’t agree with everything he says, but he is a dawg thru and thru. Would hate to see him banned.
But if he is, he done it to himself. Hope not though.

I just didn’t want to open up a discussion on COVID public policy, for reasons I hope are obvious.
I linked the story for purposes of UT mockery, which most seem to get.

I’m sure you’ve probably considered this and may have even announced it, (I miss a lot). Would (could) a long visit to the penalty box (GTP Jail) be a substitute for an outright death penalty for high sticking?
Maybe increase the length of penalty time with each offense.

Man, changing that field in Charlotte to artificial turf sure makes me nervous.
LikeLiked by 3 people
I assume the Panthers will have played at least 1 exhibition game on the turf. That grass field at BoA is garbage by the end of the regular season given the weather. It will likely be an upgrade because I’m sure it will be a top of the line sport turf.

Yeah, good point. I was nervous when I first read it but the Panthers are probably going to make sure it’s a good surface.

My understanding is that because Charlotte is getting an MLS expansion team in 2022 they need to get rid of the grass and get turf since it will now be used almost year round by two teams.

We’re turfing (Going to artificial) all 7 high school fields over the next two years for that reason. There is so much traffic on them we cant keep the turf alive.

Has the field in ATL ever caused any issues for UGA? Don’t Vandy and Missouri have artificial turf? How about our indoor practice facility…it’s not like we are never on the stuff.

Not a lot of Volunteers in the Volunteer State volunteering to take the vaccine. Doesn’t makes sense. Most are already wearing ankle bracelets to track their movement, so what would they be worried about?

May 7th. I have read a few things about it and none of them mentioned vaccines being a prerequisite for attendance and someone in my office has season tickets and he said that nothing he has seen since the announcement said anything about vaccines. On May 15th Atlanta United is opening the entire lower bowl (42,500) for fans. Haven’t seen anything about vaccine requirements for that either.

I doubt we see much of the ‘vaccine passport’ ideology in the south. My guess is that people will be strongly encouraged to get vaccinated, but in the end, getting those war chests built back up will be more important to these corporations.

I didn’t take it as “vaccination = you’re allowed in”. I took it as “get the vaccine and help keep COVID in check so we can have a full stadium without causing an uptick”.
But I’d rather just mock the V(L)ols. 🙂
