“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23

Lord no. If Mike Leach is ever given the keys to a program with true championship history and potential, I don’t want to play that team annually.

Are you kidding? Leach will go 6-6 no matter where he coaches. He is a mediocre football coach.

His career record is 155-106 with 11-2 seasons at both Texas Tech and Washington State; perennially shitty schools during the modern era… outside of his tenures.
He’s never been at a school capable of recruiting top level talent like Auburn can. Give his system players like that and he’s going to cause some trouble.
But he hasn’t won’t a natty so I guess he, along with all but like 4 current coaches, is an incompetent joke.

$15MM is what I heard on the radio, structured so that half is due within 30 days of his early termination. Balance, I think that the guy said, is due over the remaining term of the original contract.

Well, its obvious that Harsin didn’t fit, and now we have Tennessee showing everyone that you can take a dumpster fire and turn it into a Top 5 team in less than two years. No reason to think Auburn can’t do it as well.

This is sarcasm by the way.

Tennessee has shown the world that all a new AD has to do is bring his old coach with him. Come on to the Plains, Mike Leach!

“…the winning tradition that is Auburn football.”
They better start courting Elon Musk as a sidewalk alumnus if they’re going to keep paying these buyouts. But who wouldn’t want to be associated with the winning tradition that is Auburn football.

I don’t know if Tim Cook cares about football, but if he does then I think they’ll be able to afford to fire the next guy, too.

Way to go Bryan! You totally won. I love this, no way this dude would ever be a big time SEC coach because he didn’t want it. Simple as that. What he did want though, is the payout, so thank you Auburn for donating $15.5MM to this dude, who will be a great coach at somewhere that he wants to be, and now you can proceed on with your mediocre ways.
Maybe Tuberville gets voted out out, and ya’ll can go right back to where this bullshit started. War Fuckin’ Eagle.

While they’re already doing a Burning Man made of cash at the U of Greater Opelika, just pay the newly-minted buyout on Cousin Freeze and, voila’; new coach for the next 2 to 3 years (mileage may vary).

I’m in. I’ll even pull up the gameday thread while I’m on the sidelines and let y’all call plays. Hopefully I won’t have to coach but 2-3 games and I’ll get my nice fat buyout.

So, they paid Malzon over $21M right? So that’s about $37M they owed guys not to coach in about 3 years? That sounds like good management to me.

no sane coach would take that job, unless they are ready to retire in 2-3 years with a great pension.

Someone make Heupel deny any interest. And that an Auburn plane landed in Nashville and that Heupel just happened to be in town.

Take this with the usual grain of salt, but my sources on the Plains are pointing toward Auburn making a run at Kiffykins. Don’t know how interested he’d be in trading a pretty good gig at Ole Miss for the Auburn soap opera, but I guess if the money’s right you could get him to do just about anything.
Either way, what a clusterfuck. The Auburn boosters hated Harsin from the get-go, they tried to push him out, and when it became clear that his goose was cooked, Harsin completely checked out. Don’t think I’ve seen a more toxic situation since Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner wound up under the chandelier in “War of the Roses.”

Kiffin makes sense at Auburn not because of his coaching ability, but rather because of his ability to troll everyone. That seems to be a defining characteristic of “Auburn man.”

Maybe Pat Dye, who left amid NCAA violations rather than getting fired? Because since then, it’s been Terry Bowden, Tommy Tuberville, Gene Chizik, and Bryan Harsin (leaving out the interims of Bill Oliver and Kevin Steele).

The easy part is you know whose running the AD and it’s not the AD. Ole Yella Fellow and the rest of the play for pay guys have had it their way as long as I can remember and I’m 75. Hiring Freeze would be right in line with the basketball hire. If they can get coaches as dirty as the program they can win. With the NCAA all but out of business, this should be easy.

I’d like to use this space to express my interest in the Auburn HC position. I was a good DT in high school, and I once ranked in the top 100 in Madden. I believe that more than qualifies me to be quickly dismissed with a massive buyout, continuing a great Auburn tradition. Thank you.
