Auburn notes

While everyone understandably is on Harsin watch, you might be interested in what sounds like some fairly significant personnel changes for the Tigers.

The biggest change was a reconfiguration of the team’s defensive personnel, shifting to a 4-2-5 grouping — with just one edge defender instead of two, and the first introduction of the nickel spot in the team’s base formation. The change was made following an injury to edge rusher Eku Leota, who started each of the first five games of the season opposite Derick Hall. Now, Hall is listed as the lone edge in the starting lineup, with redshirt freshman Dylan Brooks as the backup.

And on the offensive side…

Offensively, there were also a couple of changes to the depth chart, most notably along the offensive line. Brandon Council is listed as the starting center, while Kam Stutts is now the starter at left guard and Alec Jackson the starter at right guard. Those updates reflect the starting offensive line from last weekend’s game against LSU, which was shuffled following starting center Tate Johnson’s elbow injury.

That’s a lot of shuffling.

Watched one Allburn game a couple weeks back. Their oline looked vastly undersized. I expect us to take them behind the woodshed (Goffism)

Given that teams seem to get a bump after a coach is fired, I’m glad Harsin is still in the office this week.

We’ve looked like absolute shit for two weeks in a row against teams worse than Auburn. Performance talks, bullshit walks. Beat the hell out of Auburn and I’ll believe again. But until then, we’ve looked like absolute shit for two weeks in a row, and that’s about all I can think about until that changes.

    • How do you think we would have looked without the -2 (really -3 against Kent) turnover margin the last 2 weeks? Take care of the ball.

What happened happened, and we’ve looked like we’ve looked. Which is like shit. People are talking about how we’ve fallen from #1? The team I’ve watched play the last two weeks doesn’t deserve to be in the Top 25. Play better or prepare to get smoked by … well, anybody, I guess. If Kent State and fucking sorry-ass Missouri can give you all you can handle, then you’re not a very good football team. I hope and expect to be proven wrong, but until further notice, that’s how I feel.

Take care of the ball with no turnovers and catch the damned ball when you’re the target and the games look a bit different. Lack of execution spreads fast and far.. button things up this week, Dawgs!

I think PDawg is a bit extreme, but he has a point. Not only did we fail to take care of the ball, and dropped passes, the QB was running for his life last week, we completely failed to cover the TE on the TD, we have missed tackles, been out of position which allowed long runs – sorry, but tackling, blocking, catching, covering and holding on to the ball is the game, minus maybe kicking (which seems pretty good) and for the last two weeks has been poor. And smack talking is not the game.

Turnovers and RZ baby. Fix that and the scores are 21 point differences – easy.

Yup. Teams playing us can’t count on us turning the ball over 2-3 times a game.

Playing AU this week should be like chicken soup for the soul.

At least against Missouri, we still would have looked inept with them abusing our offensive line.
There’s more wrong here than dropped passes and turn overs.
Something is wrong with the offense and before it can be fixed the team has to buy into the now common knowledge that they aren’t so special.
I don’t enjoy saying these things, but unless there is a huge re-focusing, this team isn’t going to win the East.
You saw how Missouri played with their hair on fire? The rest of the East smells blood and you can bet Tennessee and UF will come out in the same or even more amped up fashion.
Dawgs can get it together, but they seemed to learn nothing from the Kent St. thing.

Missouri is a bad team. We got away with showing up halfway through the 3rd. That won’t wash against much of the rest of the schedule.
Some of ya’ll keep trying to paint a turd. Just admit there’s a hell of a lot to be fixed from the following two fiascos against teams we should have dominated. Why is that so hard to do?

So if we struggle, we can blame it on the unfamiliar alignments on Auburn’s offense and defense.

What is strange is that Auburn apparently only had two edge defenders worth playing, and that an injury to one leads to a complete scheme change. One would think that an SEC school would be able to field at least 2 full defenses and offenses with their depth charts.

What is also strange is that is a pretty big change for a defense that actually was playing well and has been put in terrible positions by its very generous offense giving the ball away regularly.

Granted, a 4-2-5 defense is exactly the defense that Arkansas likes to run; Monken knows how to scheme for that.

Auburn is not a bad football team. They shoot themselves in the foot with penalties, turnovers, and occasional efforts by the coach to impose himself on the game with silly WR passes on second and goal. Basically, even though we are big favorites, this could be another nail biter if we are as generous to them turnover-wise as we have been to Kent State and Mizzou.

Auburn hung in there with the new LSU, so I can’t count them out just yet. I’d love to but that is more wishful thinking. Thank you schedule. The home field advantage might be the turning point, but I hope it does not come down to that.

No depth at all and they just lost their best (really only) edge rusher. Georgia should take Auburn apart. They really should and I really hope so. The thought of going 15-3 (5 wins for every loss) tickles me to end. Even the series in 2014 and now have a 6 game lead. Just keep on expanding that lead.

    I love trucks..

Changing up your offensive personnel before playing on the road in front of our screaming fans is a recipe for many fault starts. They will not be able to hear anything.

Changing your entire scheme in the middle of the season is a bold move, Cotton, let’s see how it works out for them.
