Start digging in…
- Mark Richt on Todd Gurley: “I think he’s one of the best backs in America. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. I think most people that have seen him play would say that as well, and I’m going to leave it at that because I’m really not going to be interested in talking too much about next year.”
- Doesn’t sound like Pete Fiutak’s interested in talking about Gurley’s 2014 season, either.
- Again, with all the injuries this season, it’s impressive to realize that Georgia will enter the Gator Bowl averaging 38.2 points a game, which is slightly ahead of last season’s school-record clip of 37.8.
- Everybody at GTP loves a little Lexicon action, so you might want to give Holly Anderson’s a good look.
- BCS to Fiesta Bowl: all is forgiven, fellas.
- You can probably guess what a bunch of head coaches who have done it in the NFL and at the college level say is the biggest difference.
- Sure, there’s a certain shooting fish in a barrel aspect to this, but it’s still a fun read.
- Can’t wait to hear Bo Pelini get asked about this at the bowl presser.
- Chris Conley, on that 87-yarder in the Cap One Bowl: “I was definitely out of breath when I finished that run. It was fun,” Conley said. “Anyone could have scored right there. There was no one within 20 yards of me. If I would have gotten caught there, I would have been ragged on by all the guys.”
- And whatever else Conley has planned for Todd Gurley in his little movie, I sure hope there’s a scene with Gurley giving Darth Vader a stiff arm.
If Gurley stays healthy, he’s going to dominate next year. Hard to imagine anyone could leave him off a top 12 Heisman Watchlist. Makes you wonder what they watched. The dude pretty much dominated every game he played, which was against some hefty competition. He didn’t even get to play against some of the weakest defensive opponents we played.

Peter Fiutak. OSU fan.
“For those of you that do not know Pete Fiutak he is a columnist for CFN.com, which stands for Complete Fanboy News. Fiutak’s dogmatic view on college football is beyond that of any so-called “professional” I’ve ever witnessed.”

That is an absolute. Pete Fiutak is a Complete Fanboy to Ohio State just as Paul Finebaum is a Complete Fanboy to Alabama.

If the Grantland Holly Anderson thing is up your alley then you should also be listening to Shutdown Fullcast and you show go back and watch shutdown fullback. Both are awesome, the podcast is hilarious. Just basically an hour of inside jokes about college football, cobb county, and florida. It’s done by @EDSBS, @CelebrityHottub, and Jason Kirk.

Megatron had some trouble w/ the ol’ gunslinger’s throws last night. They kept talking about all the drops in Detroit this year and my mind wandered to 2006. I wonder if there’s something to that w/ Stafford’s ball.
On the other hand, I’m glad we got those 4 catches out of Marlon Brown in 2009 so we couldn’t redshirt him. Think he would have helped the WR corp this year as a 5th yr senior?

What was really weird was watching Marlon catch passes from Flacco and DeAngelo Tyson catch a pass from Stafford. We have propogated the species within the NFL rank and file.

Braxton Miller has been playing longer than Rontaveous Wooten played.

Braxton, a 9th year Junior, thinks he runs too much. He wants to develop as more of a traditional, pro-style quarterback, saying: “We recruit running backs. They’re on scholarship too.”

Fiutak isn’t talking about Gurley presumably because he doesn’t project UGA to have a good season next year. I’m not saying that’s an accurate point of view, but people don’t win Heismans on mediocre teams, and unless Fiutak is a certifiable idiot, I am certain that it is not Gurley who is the concern in his mind.

So true, because we all know that Oregon State and Michigan are going to be awesome next season.
Quit projecting, man.

So that’s why BCS-bowl-bound Boston College had a RB go, and top 5 Fresno State sent a QB, right?

Blake “Dollar Tree Tebow” Bell more of a Heisman candidate than Gurley. Fascinating.

+1 Tim Tebow was a glorified TE, Blake Bell is a glorified OG.

Bell couldn’t even take a firm hold on the starting QB job, much less contend for all Big 12 QB this year.
This guy’s projections are more laughable than the “Driskel will be an All-American and throw for 300 yds/game” predictions.

We are a different (read: much better) team with Gurley totin’ the rock.

Gurley is awesome and I’d take him over any other back in America. That being said he won’t put up the numbers to win it. He won’t get enough carries nor enough yards to do it. And we won’t win enough games either. Sometimes we need to take off the red and black glasses. For all the complaining a bunch of you all here did about Murray not getting invited to New York for the Heisman ceremony, did you notice he didn’t finish in the top 10 in the voting?

We lost to Vandy on CBS and he had a bad game. The nation forgot about him after that and who could blame them? He might have come back into their collective memories a bit if not for the Immaculate Reception at Auburn, but only enough to barely get into the top 10…maybe.

Saying ‘he won’t win it’ is an entirely defensible position – one with which I agree, I fact. But it is a wholly different thing to say he doesn’t deserve to be on a Top 12 list.

Could care less about the Heisman but anyone who thinks Yelding is a better back than Gurley doesn’t know football. I do hope our coaches work harder on his pass protection though, it is a glaring weakness and he is strong enough to be effective at it. Also, AJ finishing ahead of Murray is all you need to know about what the Heisman has become.

I’m sure it’s purely an accident that the two players you used as examples both play for a particular team… 🙂

Maybe, but I think the media has a very narrow focus of 7-8 teams every year, and one or two “flavor of the seasons”, not just a Bama bias(sometimes we can be on that temporary list.) I like AJ, think he is a good QB, but don’t think he is in the best 10 QBs much less Top 5 players in all of CFB. I think Yelding is getting a ride from the two excellent backs who preceded him and the solid line he runs behind. This is all just an opinion and I may get proven wrong about this so I am not digging my heels in at all.

Our O also did this with almost zero help from the D in terms of creating turnovers and providing short fields for the offense. We were 94th in the country(not far ahead of Kentucky) in average starting field position. Click link for more details…
