- Really bad call by the officials in last night’s Ohio-Buffalo game. Even worse, it wasn’t reviewable.
- Chris Brown does his usual great job with this piece about Baylor’s offense. I love this quote from West Virginia’s defensive coordinator describing the loss to Baylor: “unlike anything I’ve ever been associated with in my entire life. It was just catastrophic in a lot of ways to our psyche.”
- For the head coach of an 8-1 team, Gus Malzahn doesn’t seem to be having a fun week.
- Dan Mullen’s understatement about defending Texas A&M: “You say we’ll put two guys on Manziel and two guys on Evans, but then there are seven on the other nine and we’re two short. That could be a problem.” Yeah, that could.
- “Boyd, as well as prosecutors, said that he incorrectly identified the person who helped move the woman, raising eyebrows since Boyd and Carta-Samuels had been Vanderbilt teammates for three seasons by that point, making the chance that he, as a receiver, might misidentify his own quarterback seem curious to some.” Then again, maybe that explains why Vanderbilt’s offense struggles at times.
- Shawn Williams is on the sidelines at the Georgia-Florida game and Corey Moore plays his best game of the season. Coincidence?

The call in the Ohio vs Buff game was even worse considering the ref that threw the flag had the best view of the QB throwing the ball from the 4 yard line and not the endzone.

Adding insult to injury, it looks like he was way outside the tackle box. The ball was spotted on the left hash and he let go of the ball on the right hash. Unless I’m missing the something, that call appears to be even worse than we originally thought.

I never excuse alchohol as an reason for dumbass comments and I’m sure he was reasonably tanked. No one should get away with calling another person, especially a young football player, a coward…that an a liar has aways been fighting words in my family. Thought the whole Carta-Samuels thing had been put to rest…the DA must have absolutely no proof.
I thought Aaron’s nasty talking was cool as hell…course it would have been difficult if he had gotten thrown out of the game….when’s the last time a QB got tossed? Ever?
There is no secret to beating Bama, you just gotta be better…course that’s the essence of the problem.

That Danielson piece is interesting. I can think of another team that matched up well with them in those respects before that game up by the Tennessee River. It’s a shame, too. I know some Bama folks down here who don’t want to play Georgia again. They’re also close to the program, so maybe that’s saying something.
There was another piece released sometime after last year’s SECCG that said the best way to beat Alabama is to keep it close and make Saban have to make decisions at the end of the game. He’s an excellent game planner and an excellent coach, but when things get crazy, he loses control (see Auburn 2010). That’s what happened last year in the SECCG, and it’s why I still don’t think we should have spiked the ball. That would have stopped the clock, and Saban would have had time to regroup his team and his thoughts.
Chaos is how you beat a man who loves control, and Les Miles is the super agent of that chaos.

AHD, Ben, all of you who think and say this: Look, UGA did what you said and LOST the freakin’ game! Can’t you bring yourselves to admit that maybe, just maybe, spiking the ball would have been another option that might have worked? Maybe even a better option, like the entire world said after the game? I don’t want to open up old wounds but, hell, we did the non-spike thing and It didn’t work yet you act like it did. Are you guys just in denial? I quit bitching about the non-spike because it does no good to cry over spilt milk and I recognize that just going to the line and running a play was/is a choice within the mainstream of choices, but it still was the WRONG choice under those circumstances (i.e. 30 seconds left and no timeouts). How do you expect our coaching staff to learn from their mistakes if you keep telling them that their mistakes were not mistakes? And I’m not even going to go into the squandering of the timeouts in that game that put UGA in that situation at the end of the game, which is a completely different subject for an entire thread.

Prior to the season, I didn’t want to face Georgia again. There were too many weapons on offense and I figured the defense had to be a little better. Murray, Gurshall and the stable of wideouts tend to create mismatch problems. Plus, there’s always the payback angle.
As far as the “he loses control” point of view, I dunno. The rest of the 2012 SECCG was kinda crazy and the team held together and pulled it out late. The 2010 AU game wasn’t so much about losing control as it was about 1) a once-in-a-lifetime type fumble by Ingram 2) a drop by Richardson and 3) injuries to McElroy and Julio and our only lineman that could block Fairley.
I like Les Miles, but if he’s an agent of chaos, he’s a double-agent. He’s got a few more clock management blunders than Saban does.

I am of the opinion, having watched Bama a good bit (polishing my envy, don’t ya know?) that this is could be the best team Saban has had at Bama.
Does not have the star power, possibly, although I think McCarron is sublime, but overall as near perfection as Nick is likely to get. And this team was not as good early as it is now.
I spec we’ll find out Saturday night.

I like this team, but the defense has me worried. Corners are weak and defensive line doesn’t really have a dominant player.

I envy their schedule far more than than their play this season. One top 10 team (who has a D even worse than our own) and UT at home instead of at the cursed Knoxville “field”.
That said our D, in game 2, at TAMU would have been ugly. That game would have looked like Baylor-WVA last year I think.

The second half of that game had more to do with Alabama not being able to steal the plays being signaled in from the sideline, like they did in the first half, and the fact AU had two starters on defense return for the second half after missing the first.

BD you are right, at the beginning of the season UGA was the best chance for anyone in the SEC to beat this Bama team because we were blessed with an offense with too many weapons/talent for anyone to shut down and that is dangerous for anyone to face. Sadly, that team doesn’t exist in Athens any longer and we are not a worthy contender should you make it to Atlanta. I do think we could be scary again in 2014 but it is too far out in time before I can be sure of that, we will see.
I think LSU has a chance Saturday but with the game in Tusky it isn’t any better than a 30% chance. They don’t have as many weapons as UGA but the ones they have are pretty decent if Mett has enough time. Good luck, I always love watching this great SEC matchup.

There should be an NCAA official at every single game with a phone who can immediately stop play if something like the Buffalo/Ohio call occurs, march down to the field, and demand that the call be reversed. Period.
