Bill Connelly ($$) makes a good point about the pace of the game we’ll see Saturday.
1. These teams play at absurdly slow tempos. Georgia games average just 11.4 possessions per team, and Florida games average 10.7. The Dawgs move the ball with ruthless efficiency, but then there are fewer possessions, mistakes hurt more and there are fewer opportunities for the superior team to pull away.
2. Florida’s big plays are as big as anyone’s. Running backs Montrell Johnson Jr. and Trevor Etienne and quarterback Anthony Richardson are all home run hitters in the ground game, and receivers Justin Shorter and Ricky Pearsall are averaging 20.8 yards per catch. Georgia, meanwhile, struggles to stretch the field with the passing game. If this becomes a big-play contest (and if we’re being honest, it probably won’t), Florida wins it.
Is that enough? Probably not. Georgia is quite a bit better overall. But if the Gators are able to make the Dawgs anxious, chunk plays and low possession totals will play a huge role.
Remember Kirby’s mantra about running more plays than the other team does. What can screw with that are big plays and turnovers. (And maybe a well-timed fake punt?)
Meanwhile, here’s Pete Fiutak’s succinct observation about what it will take for the Gators to come out on top: “QB Anthony Richardson has to be the best player on the field.”
If that happens, I’m gonna be very disappointed with the defensive coaching staff.
If the Dawgs lose this game it is because ‘they’ lost it – Florida didn’t win it. Georgia has the better talent, the better coaching staff and more motivation. Everything points to a Dawg win, wit Kirby Smart as the coach.
This is me telling my inner-Munson to shut the ‘f” up.

Seems pretty lazy to only look at the offensive potential for big plays and ignore the defensive propensity to allow them. Also, while Georgia is not great at hitting plays longer than 20 yards, they’re amazingly good at getting between 10 and 20. It would be pretty shocking if Florida, who’s the second worst team in the conference in allowing 10+ yard plays, is able to affect Georgia’s success rate.

“Dawgs move the ball with ruthless efficiency”. Not a good omen if your defense’s motto is ‘3rd and fu’.

I guarantee Georgia is going to try to hit some big plays to quell that narrative and expand their effectiveness on offense. Just need the mailman locked in on deep balls tomorrow.

I also find it amazing that people write about Anthony Richardson as if he’s just such a magnificent physical specimen that he’s ever on the verge of exploding. Anthony Richardson hasn’t been the best player on the field all season (okay, maybe against Eastern Washington), and he’s not going to be.

Anthony Richardson was nearly the best player against the vawls. 450y and two TD’s
FU is our litmus test for the rest of the year.
Toothnation nearly lost that game.
I think we may give FU a Randy Savage suplex.

That says more about Tennessee’s pass defense than Anthony Richardson.

These next two games are so linked and related. I don’t think it’s two games as much as it a one defining stretch. First beat Flarduh decisively, then do the same to the vawls. I don’t have the time to get all the stats, but suffice to say I’ve read enough to believe this is the path we take.

Amen. Anthony Richardson sucks at playing quarterback. One of the things I hate about college football is these canards like this about Richardson. Anybody who watches him knows he sucks as a quarterback. I don’t care that he can run. He’s not a good quarterback. But it’s like we’re just going to keep insisting that he is. It’s like the Bo Nix always being a Heisman candidate. Georgia is going to beat the shit out of Florida and there won’t be a thing Richardson can do about it.

If AR-Dwan beats the University of Georgia, EVERYONE in Athens should be fired!!!! He is the worst college football QB in the country! Did you hear me, THE WORST!

I expect Richardson to be the best player on the field, just the best player for UGA not uf. I expect him to be AR and make questionable plays, timid reactions at times and throw picks when available.

Soooo…let’s say gators hit 3 home runs. How do they keep us from scoring 30+? We would have to be -4 in turnovers. Anything can happen, but that kind of day is much more likely to happen to them than us.

I fully expect Richardson to be getting some tough love from Coach 30 on Monday.

Two things here, having an ar15 is cool, light weight, good sights, rapid firing range… you have to know how to use an AR15 to it’s capability to maximize it’s ability, this FU ar15 ain’t it, sorry, wish I could help ya, if the FU qb can’t find an FU receiver in 3-5 seconds, the tuck and roll is in effect, might work, maybe not, UGA football “D” will pressure him into many tuck and rolls Saturday or the lovely throwaway play on 2nd down by the Saint Johns, FU does have an ar15 that essentially shoots blanks, UGA football “D” is a different animal, shooting blanks at a different animal will get the 2nd team qb in game sooner…there is just nothing here that says close game for mine eyes…GO DAWGS!

“struggles to stretch the field with the passing game.”
This is not really accurate. Monken is simply taking what is given.

Just like the Missouri game, turnovers(and penalties) are the great equalizer.

Alabama had so many penalties I’m surprised they scored as much as they did. Let’s hope for their composure DNA to win the day. Well along with toughness, connectedness, and resilience.

Oh! My bad, TN has been worming its way into my subconscious. Still, no penalties or turnovers would be ideal.

3rd down conversations and turnovers key for win! Get the first don’t give up the second! Dawgs win big!

I find it strange that we’re tied for second in the league in offensive plays per game, and second to last in possessions per game. Which makes us first in plays per possession. I can’t tell if that makes us a slow team, or a fast team. We run 3 less plays per game than Tennessee. We’re second in the country in time of possession. So I guess I just answered my own question. If you look at plays per minute we’re probably below the FBS average. I’ll get to work on that.

A question for some of the more knowledgeable of the group. What is the roster limit for this game? Is it normal SEC travel roster limits or since it is a neutral site is it the full complement?

I believe that the designated road team in limited to 70 players and the designated home team is not.
