I thought it was just an attempt to emulate the trend from the NFL, even though the spread offenses did not even exist in the NFL at the time. Saban was using it so that also made it something everyone assumed was directionally correct. I always felt it was just to get more large, athletically talented players on the field versus overweight space gobblers to allow for versatility of rush angles and blitzes. While it has helped the perimeter defense by having more speed, it does require exceptional ILBs to prevent being gashed by the straight ahead, power run.
If you look at the job Chavis and Saban have done against A&M, we might need to look at how LSU plays defense more than Saban. The direction SEC offenses are going with A&M, Mizzou, Auburn, TN, etc., then throw in GT every year, I don’t think looking at the NFL model is the best way for UGA to go.

Worley is a good guy and a DGD. I think he’s really gotten it together from even a few years ago. There’s something to be said for redemption, and that seems to be the case with him. Way to go Tim.

Even worse for Boom is that Zook looks better in the article. Just think, if Florida hadn’t hired him, Muschamp would likely be the coach at Texas next year. Longhorns may not be happy, but I think they may have dodged a bullet.

People who think Alabama lost to Auburn because they can’t defend a spread attack must not have watched the game. Yes, Auburn gashed Bama on the ground in a way that was pretty much unprecedented. But their offense scored 28 points. While that’s more than Bama usually gives up, if Foster hits one field goal (or Arie K doesn’t get called for the new blinking hard is a false start penalty they apparently instituted just for this game) Bama wins that game.

Bill Connelly needs to get a real job and use his time more productively. What in the hell is that all about. Have no damn idea who this guy is, but gee he needs to go to “bumfreak Egypt” and study the pyramids. Wonder what every SEC coach thinks about that crap! Bottom line and only 2 numbers anyone cares about . 12-1

Bill C. is lucky that Will doesn’t want to take him on a one-way chopper ride over the Pacific this time like he did earlier this season when Will lost one of his wings after a Bill C. link klick. At that time, Will wanted to Rock Bill’s Nation by conditioning him with a session of high-velocity, high-altitude helo drop swim exercise PT.
Will observers have been well-Traned to expect that Will will place a second call to Missouri and this time, instead of congratulating them again, he will ask if they have any damn idea who this guy is.

I realize that the following statement is showing my age. Watching that clip of Tim Worley reminded me of the days when running backs (etc,) wore those huge shoulder pads that swayed back and forth while they were in full sprint. Nothing like the good ol’ days. Congrats to Worley and kudos to him for appearing to be truly humble and honored.
